  • D70 or EOS 300D?

I am shopping for a new camera and I have it narrowed down to Nikon D70 and Canon EOS 300D and I have no idea which one to go with.

Does anyone here know the pros and cons of these cameras for aquarium photography? Will it even make a difference which one I choose?

I am no camera expert but I think it is just a matter of which one you like the best. Either will not let you down I dont think. If it were me though I would choose the Nikon. But I have always been a big Nikon fan.

No camera expert either but I been looking. Between the two I like the Nikon better also. Have you looked at the Canon 20D? I think if I had the money this is what I would get.

When buying my camera I had the same debate. After reading reviews at different sites, I went with the Nikon, I also bought a Macro lens off E-bay. I really like the D70, the learning curve is pretty steep as I know zip about photography. I think it would be same with the Rebel, they are both considered "Pro-sumer" cameras. Here is an example of my limited talents not being able to take advantage of the cameras functions.

Depends on what you are in the Market for. I have a Nikon D100 and D70. I owned the Canon 10D and Digital Rebel (that is what they called the 300D here in the USA) and it felt like a POS plastic camera. Took ok pics, slow shutter, etc. I love the Nikons. The D70 is killer. Canon just put out there new Digital Rebel XT its still plastic but it’s now black instead of silver. The 10D was well to be honest just OK, felt very blah in your hand, not balanced at all. My wife knows nothing about camera and she hated using it, and loves the Nikons. The D100 is a little too much for her with all the options, while the D70 is a more user friendly camera, esp if you know nothing about cameras.

If you already have lens then go with a Canon 10D since the 20d is out the 10d is a lot cheaper, under a grand w/out lens.
If you have Nikon lens already then go Nikon. If you have none the IMO I would go with the Nikon I love there cameras and there lens are very nice. The canon Image stabilization is the biggest joke/waste of money I have ever seen, I really don’t like there lens.

Biggest thing bro…. If it sounds too good to be true… IT IS.. don’t get screwed online, buy from a good place, support your Local Camera Shops, I spent about 4% more but hey if it breaks I take it 5 miles from my house and tell him to get it fixed, they ship it all back, give me a loaner(if I needed one). Support your Local Camera Shop if you can. Tell/show them prices online and see if they can do better, most of the time they will.

They have "REEF" on their shirt so it's definitely relevant to the forum, I think you should post more pics so we can all learn about their reefing skills

Another question, the D70 is sold as two different packages here, one comes with an AF Zoom-Nikkor 28-100 mm F3.5-5.6G lens and the other comes with an AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70 mm F3.5-4.5G lens.

Which one is more suited for aquarium photography? The 18-70 is about $120 more expensive.
