A cabinet maker finishing the molding around the tank, shot a nail into the steel corner frame and cracked a panel.

The tank is dry and the team from Germany is coming to replace the panel.

Once installed, it takes 6 weeks for the German silicone to dry before water can go into the tank.

              Hi,
David told me that a week ago. He was pleased that the single layer hold it and nobody was hurt.

Impressive tank! On the German forum there's a topic about this tank. There are also two links to some more pictures: Link 1 and Link 2.

In the German topic there is a discussion about the construction of the tank. The large ammount of drilled holes in the glass might lead to cracks in the glass. Also, the metal cables which are used to stabilize the tank might rust after some time. Even inox cables will be damaged over time, the difference is that they don't rust, but form something like installine corrosion. Apart from that, these cables force a pressure on small spots on the construction, compared to broad strips of glass. This might also lead to cracks in the glass.

I also wonder about the animals. Such a large ammount of animals in such a young tank. I guess the owner will have to deal with quite an ammount of losses in the short future.

But, see for yourself on the German forum.

                Time will tell.

I was wondering the same thing as you Tanu.

                  1. Wont those metal cables rust or corrode eventaully?

                  2. And wont thos cables have pressure points?

                  3. Finally on the animals. Maybe he got cured LR? still there would be some die off wouldnt there? since he had to get it shipped to him you wonder how much die off there was.

any way it should be a nice tank. how many gallons is it? does anyone know?

anyway way we can translate the German to English?

                  thanks

                  Nick

the cables will lessen the pressure on the glass contacts and frame.

I wouldn't be concerned with corrossion on those cables. It would be 100 years before they need replacing.

Intresting, what company builds these type of tanks?

any rough idea on the cost?

actually, i found it quite interesting that, if you look at the pics, only a very small amount of holes (if any) are drilled on the back panes...all the plumbing goes over the top
