  • Business through the eyes of a Young Business Owner.

I felt the urge the rant on the subject as some of you may know, I own a small web and software development company. Considering that I only have 1 non-contracted employee and neither of us worth full time, we actually have a reasonable income. Anyways on to the topic at hand "Business" through my eyes.

It's been my experience that you either get customers from one end of the spectrum or the other, never in between. For example, you either have a customer who understands what he wants and how he wants it done or you have a customer that wants X but has no clue what X is or how to get there. Even customer attitude is extreme; They are easy to do business with, prompt and a pleasure to work with or, they are slow and weasel their way out of just about everything.

Records are an essential part of business, if not for the fact it makes your life easier when you want to know where money is going or went, but for those bad customers, it's gift you will soon learn to love. Nothing like showing a customer where they are wrong while they try and squeeze more out of you then is in the contract.

I'm not trying to tell anyone to stay away from business, not in the least bit, owning a company can be exciting. Just know that sometimes you'll run into some, well, ****heads. They'll do whatever it takes to get more for a buck.

I enjoy adding extras to all my contracts free of charge because customer satisfaction is the most important thing, but be warned some customers are in the mind set they DESERVE things for free.

Give it more time. You'll soon realize that customers come in all flavors
