  • Discovery Channel's "America Tsunami are we next"

WOW did anyone see this program?

if you missed it all you West coast people should see if its on again. The outcome is bleak.

It basically said that its NOT a question of if a big tsunami will happen but when. The scientist on the program did research from the tsunami that happened in Sumatra and found that the 2 tectonic plates (the east something and the west something) created the tsunami. Instead of the plates moving over eachother the plates were stuck together and still were moving. on the day of the tsunami the energy was released and the sea floor raised about 40 feet.

anyway they took that data and made a model of what would happen on the west coast of the US. the earth quake would be about 9.2. Seatle would be screwed. the shaking would last 5 minutes. the so called "eath quake proof" buildings might not even stay erect.

the total height of the wave would be anywhere from 75-100 feet tall in various places.

it was an eye opener and thought i would pass the info on.......

Yup, the odds of a tsunami hitting the west coast were much bigger than it hitting south east Asia. That's why the US has had tsunami warning systems in place for years and none of the Asian countries, besides Japan, did.

One expert even said that the warning systems might not be enough. She thinks they may fail at the time of the tsunami.

I think the current system is there to detect tsunamis from the same origin as those that hit Japan, mostly for Hawaii. If it's the big west coast quake that's predicted to happen then that warning system will indeed be pretty useless.

But it is one of those things like a major meteorite wiping out planet earth, it might happen tomorrow or it might still be a few thousand years away, life is too short to worry too much about these things
