Yeah those Clarions are all over the Mantas and they look like they are about a foot long.

There are several Volumes of Blue Realm- I think D-HD will be replaying them this weekend.

Me too...although mine has been acting up lately. Did you notice that DirecTV dropped TIVO?

Yeah they're gonna use an OEM DVR now.

Wayne, it will be about 2 years before the HD TIVO is no longer of value, and then DirtecTV will be trading for theirs.

I use Tivo so much that when I'm in my truck and listening to the radio I reach for the radio to rewind it and hear something again.

Oh really??? I wonder if DTV will try to get some money out of us for the trade. Do some of you guys experience a long "waiting" time when you load the list of recorded shows?

Mine seems to take several minutes at time to load the list and is immediate at other times..

Is HD worth it? WHat is it... just more channels and clearer pic? Is it clear 24/7?

                        Wayne,

Originally it was supposed to be a Free Swap Out.

As of this week they announced a $99 swap out. Supposedly the new HD unit will have 4 tuners instead of 2 (record all networks at once) and OTA is still a question.

The new MPEG 4 tuners SD TIVO and HD without TIVO are being sold by DirectTV now.

The new OEM unit is to switch to MPEG4 so that Direct can sell HD local stations to 70+ markets.

                        Invinc,

HD is pretty amazing stuff. It's hard to get sold when you goto a Circuit City with a wall of TV's. But once you get it at home the picture quality is outrageous.

It's like going from a PetCo Freshwater Display tank to....... YOUR TANK !!!

Its those kinds of colors and details.

This season about 70% of the primetime shows are in HD.

National Geographic starts broadcasting in HD in January.

                        Jeff,

Isn't it funny some of the crap we will watch just cause its HD. When I got my HD hooked up, my buddy came over and we watched a fricking stream of water for like an hour -- LOL

If anyone is unsure of the value of HD -- Stop by my pad and watch the Victoria Secret Fashion Show from CBS a couple of weeks ago, and Discovery Channels - Wild At Night - 'On the Reef'. Those two programs will convince anyone HD is the bomb !

All you need is a HDTV and a Subscription right? No other hardware?

You need a HD compatible box also that broadcast it.. Edward, actually the best HD signal is over the air with an HD antenna.. Bestbuy sells and installs them for 300 and you pick up more channels then any box can. Also I recommend HDMI hook ups if your box and TV are compatible.. Monster cable 1000 series. They also have DVI to HMDI cables too...

                            Peace, Jeff

                              Edward,

You need a true HDTV television - Not EDTV, or HD Compatible.

Then you need a source for the the HD.

OTA is nice cause it is uncompressed and usually the best picture. However, depending on where you live determines how many HD channels you can pick up.

Also OTA (over the air) is only your local stations. And most only broadcast HD during prime time.

If you go OTA and you have a new HD set, the antenna plugs into the back of the TV and you get HD (Make sure to learn how to aim your antenna.

If you want more HD content - Playboy, TNT, Discovery, HBo, Skinamax, Showtime, Universal, etc etc Then you need HD from either the cable or satellite.

This requires a specific HD tuner unit. Then you get a subscription from your cable company or Satellite Provider.

My opinion of the Ultimate (for the moment) is the pricey HD TIVO with the OTA antennae.

For the Antennaes, I recommend the Terk TV 32 -- Its pretty compact and it boosted my OTA signal by about 25% and its not amplified.
