  • SLS drops the ball...

My new dual 400 watt SLS already had a cap go bad after less then 3 months of use.. I called them last thursday and they said they would send a cap out ASAP.. Well today I still have no cap so I call them again. They say we will find out whats going on and call u back.. They just called back and said sorry it will go out today.. I was like TY this is the same cap that was coming last thursday to correct.. She said yes and I say so you are sending it today for sure correct. She says well def tomorrow.. I guess I will be happy once I get the new cap if and when that is. It would be different if it was coming from across country but its only coming from Nashville. They should have contacted me and told me it was not coming. Big for SLS so far. Funny I got rid of my eballast for these SLS since they are supposed to be bullet proof. Well all that has happened is the cap went out and my power bill went up $50 per month. Worst thing I ever did was to get rid of my CV eballast and go with these heavy heat magnets. Seriously people say it will take yrs to recoup the money saved versus buying eballasts.. That is simple not true you can recoup the cost in 1 month... I concealed some guys coming last weekend because of this and I have to contact them again and cancel because of it.. I just hate the tank without having all the lights working...

Jeff that sux bro. I will give a for the CV e-ballasts though. They drive my Phoenix 14's brighter and whiter than my Ice Cap with no problems. And Dave is a good guy, though sometimes hard to get a hold of.

Dude, ditch the SLS and go with what you had. There is no reason for you to change to SLS.

Madison, believe me I wish I had. I will look back into eballasts once Dave at CV gets back on his feet after the hurricanes. I had amazing color before but was trying to squeeze the most par out of the xm20K I could. I do not believe the corals are any better for it at all. Just my bank account is less with the large power bills.... I changed to the RO1's at the same time and that made the biggest difference of all.. Reflectors mean everything for MH.

That is SLS for you. I have had one problem after another getting repaired ballast. They have tried to bill me for the repairs one ballasts that were less than one week old. They called me almost 2 years after I had returned some ballast, and told me that I need to give them a cc number to bill the ballast I never sent back.

Hi Jeff, exhausting actinics will cause coral color dullness[I'm assuming you use actinics]Bob

Bob, 2 t5 blue+ and 2 vho actinic. The lose of color is just because of the light not working for the last 8 days. The actinics are not old at all.. 4 month for the t5 and vho's.. Its only the center area where I switch the light back and fourth until the new cap comes in.

                  Thanks, Jeff

Actinics run 10 month maybe longer without a shift. T5 can run 12-18 months. Now I am overdriving my T5 so I will change them out at 10 months as well...
