  • I need your suggestions on how to advertise!

For next years sports season at San Jose State my buddy and I are working with the associated student body on campus to create a booster shirt that all the students would wear to the sports games. If you watch college football or basketball and you are watching a big time sports college then you will see in the stands all of the students wearing one uniformed shirt in the student section.

Well for the first time next year it looks like we at SJSU are going to be doing the same thing thanks to my buddy and I. We got tired of there being a lack of school sports spirit on campus and decided that something needed to be done. So to unify the students and the school as one we have come up with our own booster shirt. Next week my friend and I are giving a powerpoint presentation to the Associated Student Body to get this idea passed and get them excited.

We are going to explain things like shirt design ideas, the need for a designated student section at games, etc. for the powerpoint presentation. We are also going to run some advertising ideas by the Associated Student commitee on how we can get students excited about the shirt and the sporting events.

So my question to you is what kind of advertising do you think would get students excited about the shirts and sporting events? Did you go to a well know sports college? If so what kind of advertising did they impliment to get students excited?

We have already thought of doing things like banners, fliers, having students wear the shirts the day before the game, on campus to remind people there is a game, verbal announcements in classrooms about the games, if we see people wearing the shirts on campus the day before the game they get prizes, on campus newspaper ads. Etc.
You're Norma Desmond you used to be big.

I am big it's the pictures that got small.

When I was a student the two things that excited me most (and little else) were chicks and beer. Involve those two and it's a sure winner

          Brad...
I'm not sure you can change habits in a short time. Are sports not polular a SJSU? Only some sports? If one is in fact popular then it would be best to start with it. With your added publicity you might be able to create some momentum. Dont' start with this on a program that is marginal. Work to increase that which is already accepted and try to carry it to the next sport. Your best potential students are those already following the schools team to some degree. Get more from those people first. Trying to convert someone not interested will be difficult.
I have no suggestions as far as advertising. Not many advertisers are targeting me.
