  • 150 watt HQI

I've turned my fuge into a grow out\frag tank..Its 30 gals and I plan to put a 150 watt DE over it (Reef optix III and Bluewave ballast) Just wondering what your thought are on this type of bulb and how well it does growing out corals in smaller tanks.

The systems going to come with a Saki 50K bulb.

I've heard good things about the Phoenix.

    Thanks

In the 150w range Mark, I'd consider the radium. It's got more output than the phoenix/aquaconnect. the saki is good, but on the pinkish side visually, but I dunno that matters in a grow out...

          Nick,

I have 2- 150w spotlight 20k(medium base) , and a 70 watt spotlight 6.5k(medium base) both bulbs made by Iwasaki.
A friend loaned me a mogul based 150 watt Iwasaki 50k a week or so ago. I thought the color output was pretty cool, but i didnt have the right reflector so the intensity was down.
Ive been useing these bulbs suplementing and highlighting various corals or areas in the tank. Im really quite impressed with the little 70 watt 6.5K bulb.......ive had highliting a gorgeous red table foir the past few months and have seen noticeable growth and color differences.
The 20k 150 watt flood style spots , on the other hand havent done much for me.

Id be real interested in the 50k in a spotlight configuration (medium based).
Apparently, Iwasaki makes other spot style bulbs (differnet kelvin ranges) , but i havent been able to find a source..............yet.
I may end up supplementing the phoenix 14k's Im currently running, with 2 150 watt 6.5k's. I think this might be the best of both worlds (for me anyway).

Anyone know if the 50k's are available either DE or medium based?
