Skimmer Thoughts?

I was thinking (which very rarely happens btw);

Given a skimmer which is rated for 400G but being run on a 200G system and recommended to run the skimmer with flowrate of 800G/hr

(a) Would it be better to run a lower flowrate with a tank turnover rate of about 1.5x/hr (300G/hr) with thus higher dwell time?

or

(b) Would it be better to run a higher flowrate with a tank turnover rate of about 2.2x/hr (440G/hr) with thus a lower dwell time when compared to (a)?

What are your thoughts? Cheers!

Farish, you are thinking too much In a SPS tank, one strives for a higher tank turnover. I've always found that adjusting the skimmer to run on the wet side to be best in nutrient extraction, no matter what the tank turnover. HTH. Bob

Have set the skimmer for 440G/hr flowrate with max air being injected and will monitor it for a few days to see if it improves the nutrient levels and the fight with cyano etc etc. Have set it to skim wet too!
