My Blue Pederson Shrimp
... is doing great! He has some different movements compared to the regular shrimp we always see. He does dance in the water and he jumps on fish to clean them too. He is ALWAYS out in the open and never hides.

Ever since you first posted pics of them on RC, I have been in total shrimp-envy. Very cool. You are probably one of only a handful of hobbyists in this country that have one. You're soooo lucky...

Thanks guys. I got him from a local in Houston. They dont fight with my 2 cleaner shrimps. They ignore each other. I have seen him close to the RBTA anemone shrimp too and they ignore each other too. I had two of them at first, but havent seen the other in a LONG time. I was thinking that my bicolor psuedochromis was the culprit, so I removed him since. I dont have any other fish that would eat this shrimp so now im safe. He is very small too.. about an inch? They dont like being in pairs either. This guy hangs out everywhere.. on my rics, my scolys, on the sand.. just about anywhere. He doesnt have a good spot. When I feed mysis shrimp to the tank, he runs out in the sand like crazy and jumps to get him a grab or he goes to the scolys and steals it from them. I dont worry as he is very small. Wish he could get bigger. I want to get some other shrimp too.. but havent seen any nice ones around. And im not sure where they come from or who wholesales them.Comment

I know they inhabit the caribbean, florida keyes, becuase I saw around 5-6 of them in a Corkscrew anemone(I think) while I was snorkelling there. They were right off the highway in the keyes in the water mabe 6 feet from the rocky shore? The water was really detrious filled and mucky. I mean it was in the rocks in the corkscrew anemone off of a boat ramp. They must be pretty hardy and they stay in anemonies in the wild. I sucked 3 or 4 of them up in my slurp gun(do a internet search to see what I mean) and threw those things in the collection vat. (cheap styrafoam container from gas station) Sad to say, by the time I got done collecting(inverts and fish) I accidentaly tripped over the cantainer in our boat(blow-up dingy with small motor) and sll the contents were floating around in the boat. I had to try to hold the styrafoam container cracks togeather so that water would not leak out and tried to get as much as I could back into the container...I never found the shrimp I got. Heck they are probably dried up dead in the cracks of the boat(dingy). Ohh well...
It was cool though snorkelling I could hear hundreds of either pistol or mantis shrimp clicking away when I dove down to flip over rocks to see what was under them(goodies to collect that is...serpent stars, cukes, limpets, crabs, etc.)
Ahh the stories of collecting and diving in the Florida Keyes...if you havent snorkelled and collected there...buddy your missing out...also..
I think www.etropicals.com sells those shrimp...anyway they are everywhere in the keys...look in rocky areas and muddy areas around boat ramps...really.Proud owner of an Elegance Coral "that lived". (It is thriving whith long tentacle tips...purchased in January 2005.) It has white tentacle tips, I beleive this has something to do with ones that will typically live due to the collection site.Comment

Ohh the mark-up...you wouldnt beleive...I swear every day snorkelling I bet I see over 500 brittle stars and places sell them for $10 [email protected]$%#!!!Proud owner of an Elegance Coral "that lived". ProdigalP, yes you can. But I never hand feed them.. they just scavenge or grab food when it floats by.Comment
