  • Just removed my filter sock

So I used to use a filter sock and then I read a post that said this wasn't the greatest thing to do with zeo because it collects nutrients and also some of the zeo can get trapped in it. So I just removed it and am now letting my skimmer do all the work. We will see how it goes.

Brad, can you direct me to the post where it's theorized that the micron socks are bad for ZEO elements...? I can't imagine what ZEO products could get trapped in my 100 micron sock...?! The bacteria are much smaller than that, and the rest of the supplements are liquid/dissolved...?

Also, the socks do collect nutrients via the crap they capture, but by changing them out every few days, you are actually removing the nutrients. I would think it would take at least a couple of WC's a week to remove the nutrients my socks are taking out if they weren't there..?

          Sure thing,

It is on the RC Captive Oceans site under the heading "Filter Sock" I believe.

I could be wrong here I am realizing. I removed my diatom bag which I took as being called a filter sock in this conversation. Is a filter sock something different or is it just another name for diatom filter? Anyways, I removed it and am now letting my skimmer do all the work.
