  • Switch to Zeovite Method

Hello everyone, My name is yanir I'm 38 years old and reef tank always was my passion since i remember myself as a kid....
I've been running 3 different reef tanks for the last 15 years , and now this reef is my dream that comes true.

my tank is 1 Year old, pretty young.
the ugly phase is almost gone ,and SPS frags are taking off

Display tank is 550 liters (SPS dominant)
Lps tank is 120 liters (Lps)
    Sump is 200 liters
both tank are connected to same sump.

Lighting: I have used ATI power module hybrid 8×54w + Leds clusters above display tank , but moved to ATI power module 10×54w (only t5)

Radion XR30 Blue above frag tank. tank.

    Flow : 3 MP40 on big tank
    MP10 on frag tank.

    Skimmer : TUNZE 9430

Return pump : RED DRAGON 100w

control and dosing : GHL profilux 4 & dosing pump of GHL + KH director.

Balling method of RedSea + trace elements by tropic marin

Coral food : Sometimes Acro Power (Two little fish)

    Fish :
    5 tangs , 13 cromisis, 3 red sea anthias, 2 clowns

    parameters:
    salinity 1026 sg
    Cal 430
    Mag 1300
    Alk 8.5
ph 8.4 at day and 8.1 at night
    no3 is 3-5 ppm
    po4 is 0.03 to 0.07

All sps was started from 1 inch frags

I hear a lot on Zeovit method , but never had the guts to move into it.
I think that now I'm ready.
the main reason for this is that I want to achieve perfect color for my SPS.
The tank is well stocked with SPS , and I don't want to make them any stress.

What is your advices for me?
How can I make the switch to zeovit method without damaging my corals ?
Also , what is your tips to maintain good and healthy system with zeovit method ?
    Thanks for your comments !

      1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter - its 800 liters. it's 140 cm long , 55 cm high ,70 cm wide. frag tank is 70 cm long ,60 cm wide 45 cm high
      2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter - its 650 liters
      3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique - no
      4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.) - no
      5. Are you using Ozone - no
      6. Are you using UV - yes
      7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume) - TUNZE 9430 , its rated for 3,000 liters of lps/soft tank ,and 1,500 liters to SPS tank
      8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels - NO3 is at 2 , PO4 is at 0.01
      9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels - Alk at 8.0 dkh , Mag is 1300 , Cal is 400
      10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.)- Fleece roller mat and Tropic Marin Bacto balance
      11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.) - ATI power module 10×54w Over the main tank ,and Radion XR30 over the frag tank
      12. What corals do you keep - Mostly SPS , and few LPS
      13. Tissue color (light or dark) Some of them brown ,some of them light and other green
      14. How long has the tank been running - its running for 1 year now
      15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system - I always wanted to bring out the true colors from my SPS , and never successfully with other methods
      16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.) Yes , red sea Alk , Cal and Mag as liquid supplements. Tropic Marin trace elements A,K
      17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.) No ,started with dry rock
      18. Any present problems. they are 1 year old.

      19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.) -My sps don't have that bright color that I want
      20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.) Tropic marin for Alk and salifert for cal ,Mag and no3
      hanna for PO4

      21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.) -didn't start dosing any product of Zeovit , yet
      22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.)- temp is 24.5 to 25.0 c, salinity is 1025.5
      23. Which salt brand do you use - red sea blue bucket

Also ,how high should I hang the lightning above the tank ? right now they are at 30 cm above the water, and I'm feeling its too high.

Hello Yanir and welcome to ZeoVit.com from me also !

I would recommend you to start as follows:

First start with the basics products to decrease nutrients:

        1. Place 1.6 liter zeovit in a Zeo Reactor. Water flow around 650 liters per hour. Connect the reactor pump to a clock timer and run the reactor pump with a 3 hour on / 3 hour off / 3 hour on interval. Please make sure the zeolite is not exposed to air while the pump is switched off. Clean the material daily. Leave the zeolite 4 weeks in the filter until you do the first change out. This is the first changing interval, others could be lengthen to 6 – 8 weeks.

        2. Place 0.65 liters activated carbon in a filter sock and keep it in a passive water flow in your sump, changed every 30 days. Knead the carbon daily to keep the surface clean. Most users get perfect results with korallenzucht carbon.

        3. Dose 7 drops ZeoBac daily for the first 2 weeks, flowed by a 2 – 3 x weekly dosage of 7 drops. Dose 0.65 ml ZeoStart 2 x daily (morning & evening). Dose those in front of the Zeo reactor pump while it is switched on.

When you start reduce the dosage of Bacto Balance to 50% and reduce the dosage slowly step by step over the next 6 weeks to zero. Additional stop dosing the TM Trace Elements you use completely except the elements to balance KH, Ca and Mg.

Later on you could use the additional products for coral coloration. Adjust your skimmer to skim wet, keeping it clean to export as much as possible. Do a weekly water change of 5 – 10 % with a good salt.

The system is not compatible with UV, switch it off when you start using the components.

Basic water parameters looking good, try to keep them as stabile as possible close the NSW in the following ranges:

        KH 6.5 – 7.5
        Ca 400 – 420 mg
        Mg 1250 – 1300 mg
        K+ ~ 380 mg

For a nutrient poor environment K+ (potassium) seems to be a important element. I would recommend you to get a test kit for this element also, posting your results.

I ran my T5 fixtures about 15 cm above the water surface, 30 cm sounds a little bit to high for my taste. Also make sure to use a balanced lighting spectrum which is not to blue. This will also have a positive impact to coloration.

This is a start-up dosage which might have to be adjusted later.

Thank you Alexander, for your quick reply !

          1. about the lightning, I raised it because I simply switched all the bulbs in single day...i saw that some corals got little bleached . i will lower it 2-3 cm every week, until it will be back at 15 to 30 cm . is it o.k ?

          2. My bulbs combination is:

          6 blue plus
          2 coral plus
          1 aquablue special
          1. 1 actinic

is that combination is good for zeovit method ?

          3. about the zeolite in the reactor - should I stirr this small rock 1 or e times per day ?

As the spectrum changes, the appearance of the corals will also be altered, so it is recommended to make changes in a gradual manner to allow more time for the corals to adapt.

Don't worry, please also pay close attention to the basic parameters and it is stable.

Personally, I prefer the configuration given by G.Alexander. It should get a white and natural spectrum, not more blue.

Agitate the zeolite material once a day in the morning and at night.

Hello Yanir, sorry I was under the impression that you use a 8 bulb fixture so if the fixture has 10 bulbs I would go with the following combination:

                6 x wT5 Coral Light New Generation 14000K
                3 x T5 Superblue
                1 x T5 Fiji Purple

or similar bulbs from a different manufacturer.

Your current lighting setup has to much blue for my taste.

                G.Alexander
