  • Restart my tank

    Hello everyone,

I rebooted my tank six months ago.The breeding experience was better than the last one.But I still had some problems. Coral has been growing like crazy in the last month, but the coral is getting whiter and whiter,it's very unhealthy. Now I don't know how to adjust.

Here are the details of my tank,

    600L net water
    zeolite 1.5L flow 450L/hour

    salt 1.025
    KH 7.8
    CA 415
    mg 1259

light: XR30G5 x 3 Keep the light up for 12 hours,The maximum intensity is 8 hours. The par at the top of the rock is 400

    my dosing plan

bak 6 dorp twice a week
    start3 0.6ml x2 one day
sp 6 drop every other day
    cv 2 drop everyday
    xtra special 1ml every day
bb 2.5ml once every three days
    love 5ml twice a week
ag 6 drop every other day
    life 5ml every other day
biomate 6 dorp twice a week
snow plus 3ml twice a week

All I can think of at the moment is reducing zeolite and increase fish feeding.

Some photos are attached for reference...

I clicked on the picture to see what the corals looked like, the corals looked like they had lost polyps, thin tissue, mostly pale like that. Can you tell us what brand of activated carbon to use / how to use it? Have you also measured your potassium levels as well, please also post the actual potassium levels, it recommends 380g. When was the last time the water was changed, what brand of salt was used and what equipment was used to measure salinity

The coral health doesn't look very good, I hope the less reactor flow of 450 liters is correct.

It is recommended that you do a few water changes first, using a good quality salt to restore balance. Let's do three water changes of 15% each over the next 10 days

Some of your corals are looking very good while others show some kind of issues. I have some additional questions:

Are the corals showing light tissue longer in the system and the corals which have intensive color where added recently ?

Have you restarted the system with completely new rocks / sand or have you used rocks / sand from a matured system ?

Please also post some more pictures from the side of corals which are affected from the problem you described most.

Was the lighting process of the corals a constant procedure which took some time or has this happen relative quick within a shorter time period ?

The temporary increase of water changes like Jacky said is something I would try first also.

Hi aaawwwlm you have some really nice corals

Keep in mind this is only a six month old system.

The corals have been in there for at least a month.

What was the water change frequency before now?

I have been keeping sps over the years but found the only way to keep corals alive is to do daily water changes or large weekly water changes.

I keep my tank small now and change 8% daily and everything seems good colourful and growing. My current tank didn't grow acropora until a year in.

Some of your corals are showing no sign of any problems yet without any additional information they may just be new additions.

The photos are taken in white light and its hard to see the true color without the blue.

Do you have fish in the tank? I did not see any in the pictures. Corals need food in the form of liquid, like fish urine or amino acids if this is the case and Im not judging you. That's your answer. I see your not supplementing any LPS or high concentrate.

How many fish are in the tank and how big is the tank?

Personally I don't keep fish but I add energy ab plus on a doser all day long

How long were the corals in healthy condition. Did you say three months

There seems to be some kind of "stress" on the coral in the picture. Did you change anything, or add something when you noticed the coral health started to go downhill?

Regarding this restart plan, is there also additional addition/change of something/equipment etc.

Can you describe more about the sand, what kind of sand it is. Also let's measure the reactor outlet flow again to make sure the actual flow is present and get the potassium test kit to measure the actual level

Thank you, have you changed anything about 2 weeks before the problem has started ?
