  • Problem sps

    Hello,
I have a problem with sps these lose their tissues through the tips and others have retracted polyps.

I've noticed this since I increased the flow of the reactor and also since I rinse the Zeolith.

    The parameters look correct :
    no3 5 (salifert)
    po4 undetactable (hanna ulr)
    kh 7 (salifert)
    ca 450 (salifert)
    mg 1380 (salifert)
    k 390 (salifert)

flow reactor 200l/h and 1 min rinse at 2000l/h at 7:00am

zeoback, zeofood 3 drop monday and thursday
    sponge power 3drop 3x week
    amino 3 drop 1x week
amino lps 0,9ml all day (disturb auto with pacific sun core 5th and stirrer)
zeostart 0,7 (0,35 at 00:00 am and 0,35 at 12:00 am disturb auto too)

Is it possible to decrease again the Flow rate, please I need help

Flow reactor 200l/h and 1 minute flush at 2000l/h 7:00am (reactor flow should remain steady in a balanced manner, changing rapidly, which may cause coral maladaptation)

The increased flow might be the reason, if it is increased to quick it can cause issues like you describe so whenever you increase the flow it is more save to do this in smaller steps. Please also double check the K+ level with a different test kit to make sure yours is accurate. Reduce the flow temporary to the setting you had before.

Please additional tell us the total net water volume of your system and the ZeoVit quantity you have in your reactor.

Net water volume 350, the amount of zeolite material is about 0.88 liters, and the maximum flow rate per hour is about 350 liters. The reactor you are using, I don't think it will work for real results, the zeolite material needs to be agitated and flipped to make it slushy to recycle. Your tank, should be able to find a suitable reactor, and be able to collect the reactor outlet for 30 seconds, volume x120, so we can get the actual flow.

It is the same principle as that of fauna marin, I intend to crush the zeolih so that it moves when the big pump work.

The current flow is 192L/ (800ml in 15 sec) with the tunze silence 1073.008

The actual flow and the ZeoVit quantity you use is correct, you can continue to “rinse / clean” the material two times per day with the higher flow for one minute. Not sure what the exact flow was before you started to increase it and before the problems started but I would recommend you to go back to this flow temporary. Keep a close eye on the PO4 and NO3 level while you use the lower flow. Once the corals are doing better you can slowly step by step increase the flow again to 200 liters per hour over a 2 week period.

Your dosing regimen is fine, you can keep it as it is, also continue with the regular water changes and do not replace the carbon at the moment. Double check the main test kits (K+ / KH / Ca) and the salinity with different kits and a different instrument to make sure they are all accurate.

                    Thank you jacky and G.Alexander

After the problem, the flow was 100l/h. I will put it back as before

Hi Baldamichel sorry to hear about your coral.

Can you tell me if this is a new purchase. How long have you had this coral for? Was it shipped over night or was this a frag you've grown out.
Sometimes new corals die from the base after transport into a new tank.

Was zeovit just started on the tank? How long have you been running zeovit?
Have you been doing any pvc glueing pipe or fittings on the tank recently?

If polyps are retracting its not a good sign

Did you notice any positive changes since you have reduced the flow of the reactor already ?

I am on vacation currently I would say that Monday, a friend makes the additions, on the other hand I stopped the additions of Zeofood and zeostart because the sand is brown.

question: in de new manual, it’s write Zeofood 6gt/100l/week and stop zeostart, why ?

And in manuel on 2008, write stop zeostart and Zeofood if the sand/rock is green/brown
