  • Correct flow

    Hi.
My tank has 300 liters net water.
    20 ppm nitrates
    0.1 phosphates
I use 750 ml of zeolites and the flow is 300-325 L.
    Is that the correct flow?

The quantity of zeolite material is 0.75 liters, and the flow level is up to 300 liters per hour. Nutrition level seems to be high

      Thank you
By the way, I read the application of Cococarbon by Grotech...I use it.
There should be used max. 50 g activated carbon CocoCarbon per 100 l aquarium water.
The activated carbon CocoCarbon should be flowed strongly 2-3 days during the usage in the aquarium and being disposed afterwards. This procudure should be repeated every 4 weeks.
That means that Cocobarbon absorbs Zeostart if it remains in passive mode during 30 days?

Regarding the carbon brand you use, I have no experience in using it, so I can’t say anything. I use KZ brand carbon (recommended), 1000 liters of water/1-0.5 liters of carbon, passive flight with mesh bags, 30 days replacement.

Both (Carbon and Start) have a positive effect on reducing [nutrition], and they do not violate peace. What is more worthy of attention is that in case of simultaneous replacement cycles (carbon and zeolite materials), the time interval should be separated to avoid rapid nutrient reduction.

Here is a detailed description of KZ Carbon and individual Zeo products

          OK. Thanks.
Yes, I apply the time interval
Before Zeovit I was putting the mesh of Cococarbon on top of the last splitter cristal of the sump, 5 days a month, I could see the water clearer after that.
With Zeovit I used it same way. 1-2 NO3 and 3 ppb PO4.
From last one year in passive mode, and bad results.
I will give a chance to my 4 kg Cococarbon bucket using it 5 days a month twice. Helping me with coral snow plus.

You can't rely on or increase the amount of carbon to overcome the reduction of nutrition, can you post more information about your tank, if you can, pictures or videos (display system, sump), so that we can learn more.

Having said that, I don't know what Cococarbon products are, maybe it is an adsorbent? In the conventional ZeoVit system, it is not recommended to use any additional adsorbent, of course you can try it, but use it carefully

Coconut carbon is made from the shells of coconut and it can be used in saltwater however I would recommend do check if the carbon does leach PO4 by putting some fresh carbon in some RO water for a couple of hours, than measure the PO4 level of the water which should be zero.

I would recommend you to use carbon continuously, it does not only remove harmful substances or the yellowness of the water it does for example also absorb nettle toxins from the corals.

As Jacky I have never used the carbon brand so I would recommend to start slow by just using 50% of the recommended quantity passively flown in the sump.

Carbon is activated two different ways

                1/ phosphorus acids
                or
                2/ high pressure STEAM

by testing carbon pho4 will tell you which activation has been used.

idearly the steam activation is what right for our tanks as it is not adding pho4 to the tank.

                Regards

                  Thanks to you all.
Before test Cococarbon I´m gonna to answer.
My tank crash a year ago, I changed from Giesemann T5 to ATI, I burnt corals. ATI blue plus are whiter (lesser actinic) than Giesemann. PAR differences....I bought same ´spectrum´ and I used same power and corals blow up. I´m gonna buy corals coming soon, but I want to reduce nutrients. Maybe that level of nutrients was because the skimmer did not work properly, today I saw a thick brown coat on the white part before the neck. My tank has 8 fishes, they eat Ocean nutrition pellets.
Cococarbon is burnt coconut shell activated by steam. Is faster than charcoal carbon and smaller, it is as beach sand.
OK, it would be in passive mode 30 days.
Passive mode and on top of the crystal mode Pics.

We have some technical issues with the forum software because of the attachments at the moment. The pictures are uploaded just not visible in the post. As soon as this is fixed the pictures will be shown again. Sorry for the trouble.
