  • 5 months with full Zeovit system. Now what?

    1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter = 150 gallons
    2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.) - US gallons / UK gallons / liter = 120 gallons
    3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique = Two part
    4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.) = no
    5. Are you using Ozone = no
    6. Are you using UV = no
    7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume) = Reef Octopus sss 1000
    8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels: PO4=0.03 and NO3=0
    9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels: 460, 8, 1395
    10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.) Fleece filter Clarisea automatic: filter sock and Zeovit reactor
    11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.) = Two Radion XR 15 pro and 4 x 54 watt T5 bulbs
    12. What corals do you keep = SPS, LPS, and some zoanthids
    13. Tissue color (light or dark) both light and dark
    14. How long has the tank been running = About 5 months now
    15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system = low nutrients, simplicity, excellent repeatable results
    16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.) no
    17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.) = no , started with dead rock
    18. Any present problems. Would like more growth
    19. Problem description
    20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.) Hanna + Salifert
    21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.) 1 L Zeovit In Reactor, ZEObak 4 drops two x’s a week, ZEOfood 9 drops 3 x’s a week, ZEOstart 0.5 ml 2 x’s daily, Sponge Power 5 drops every other day
    22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.) 1.024, 78 degrees
    23. Which salt brand do you use: Tropic Marine pro

I started my tank with the Full ZEOvit System about five months ago. Things have gone fairly well and I’ve had no algae outbreaks or the typical ugly stages. I’ve had some of the brown film build up as described from overdosing and corrected with backing off a few of the additives for a few days. I’ve taken it very slow because I did start With dry or dead rock. I am seeing some Coral growth but it appears slow. My neon green birds nest has turned an almost brown color. I also have poor polyp extension. My tank is not heavily stocked with coral yet and I have six fish including a Wrass, two clown fish, A sail fin tang, dottyback, and coral beauty. What is the suggestion for more additives at this stage? A balance, B balance, Phol’s extra? Etc...

Main water parameters are all relative high, have you already cross check salinity with a different, accurate instrument to rule out that it is to high ? Please also post the K+ level of your system.

The tank is just running 5 month which is not really long if just dry rock is used so it might take additional time to stabilize the biology which might be the reason if everything else is OK.

Can you please post some coral pictures ?

1.04 with refractometer. I don’t have a K test yet but ordered. My pH could be better. It averages 7.8. Going to do a CO2 scrubber.

In the first post is a link to a article which does describe how to use a refractometer, the ppt scale should be used:

          https://forum.zeovit.com/forum/equip...-refractometer

Also the lighting spectrum looks very blue to me, is that just because the pictures are take without white balance ?

Thank you for the article. I do calibrate my refractometer with calibration solution. The pictures look more blue because of my phone. My radions run AB + program and have a mix of actinic and blue T5s so I think my lighting is fine. What I would really like guidance with is what other KZ products I should start using next. There are soo many! Thanks

You are right, there are many products but it does not mean that you need every single product. Basically dosage depends to the look of the corals and the dosed quantity to the number of consumers (coral stocking level).

Do you just keep a couple of fragments at the moment, because of the coral pictures I can not see much of coloration as they are very blue.

I have about 8 sps frags, a few lps, and zoanthids. The coloration I would say is ok but polyp extension isn’t not good. I will post better pictures with better daylight spectrum later today.

As the coral stocking level is still low and the elements consumption is not really high I would recommend you to continue with the basics, additional if you like to SpongePower and some ZeoFood.

Also let the main water parameters decrease a little bit to the following ranges:

                    KH 6.5 – 7.5
                    Ca 400 – 420 mg
                    Mg 1250 – 1300 mg
                    K+ ~ 380 mg

and keep them as stabile as possible.
