As for the spike in nitrate a single dead and rotting snail can send a reef tank into chaos. Have you been changing the zeovit lately? New zeovit can remove a lot of phosphate which can spike nitrate.
    I don't have to change it now the zeovit material, no changes made in my aquarium. But we won't get some corals that have good color
