  • KZ 2 part

I have a KZ tank and dose 2 part, currently Mecoral 2 part. I was just delivered the KZ 2 part and was reading that they recommend 1ml per 25 gallons. currently i dose 45ml a day to maintain my 7.22DKH and 450 calcium. does this seem correct that i would replace 45ml with 4ml of the KZ? i prefer not to have a giant alk swing in switching. I do have a Geo's calcium reactor setup waiting to be delivered to move in that direction at a future date due to the uptake.

this is my current dosing schedule
POHL’S CORAL VITALIZER 12 drops Day
    CYANO CLEAN 8 drops Day
    ACROGLOW 4 drops Day
    CORAL SYSTEM 1-4 4ML each a week
AMINO ACID CONCENTRATE 4 drops Day
    FLATWORM STOP 4ML Day
POHL’S XTRA CONCENTRATE 4 ML Day
CORAL BOOSTER 4 ML Every other Day
    CORAL SNOW 4ML Day
ZEOFOOD PLUS 4 drops Every other Day
ZEOBAK 4 drop twice a week
    ZEOSTART 3 1ML 3 times a week
    ZEOMEDIA Every 6 Weeks

Difficult to say as I do not know the element concentration of both products. I would start with the recommendation and measure both levels once daily, KH maybe 2 x daily (morning / evening) until you found the right quantity for your system. A Ca level in the range of 380 – 400 mg and a KH between 6.5 and 7.5 works very well. Higher levels do not have a positive imapct.

So i tested the alkalinity of both the Mecoral and the KZ KH plus, The Mecoral KH supplement testing on a hanna tester with .01ml with RO water was over the 20.0DKH threshold that the meter is able to read up to. The KH Plus with same testing tested at 17.8DKH. which would come to the conclusion that they are not equal and that i would need to add more of the KH Plus over the 46.6ml i currently dose with the Mecoral supplement. There for im not sure how the directions to dose 4ml a day could even be close to accurate. this could be very confusing to someone just starting to dose there tank with 2 part and chose this supplement. i understand that calcium over 400 is not beneficial, but ive played that chasing numbers game before and lost a lot in doing so. so that doesn't interest me at all. according to Randy Holmes Farley 2 part should be doses equally. the calcium will level out with the alk supplement, I cant say this is 100% accurate but there is over 20 years of him testing his own recipe, as well as him being a chemist in real world practice give me some indication that he has put extensive research and practice into this.
