  • My purple Tort...Wont grow :(

I have had this thing for probably 7 months in my tank, proably 5 of those months it had crappy lighting so its understandable why it wasnt growing then, but it is still going SUPER SLOW. Pretty much the only growth I have seen is a bit of encrusting that is visible in the picture. Man I wish it would grow, I looks happy to me...Just not sure why its not taking off

My tort took almost a year to really start growing. The coral puts very little energy into vertical growth until it is fully encrusted. Also, some brands of torts are notoriously slow growers. Don't keep moving it around (not implying you have) and let it encrust. Most of all, patience grasshopper.

I did move it once, and it did have to start encrusting a bit again which obviously did slow it down, but damn its even encrusting super slow. Its probably been where it is now for atleast a month or more. I would have expected more encrusting than it has shown.

This is my experience as well.

The owners of these guys report similar encrusting vs. vertical/axial growth patterns as well.

Well thats good to know I guess. Some other acros I have seem to be doing pretty well so I guess I shouldnt be too concerned. My Green Slimer that I got about a month ago is now encrusting nicely. Hopefully it starts too shoot up soon too :P. My Birds nests both have several new branches forming which I like to see. They are probably the fastest changing thing in my tank right now. Perhaps even faster than my caps. My digis are somewhere between the two with some of them doing better than others. I have one digi actually that looks great (its bright green/yellow) that has probably only grown 1/8" since putting it in there several months back.

Is this ORA tort? I have fragged and moved my ORA tort times numerous times. IME it appears that it takes a while to adapt to its new location after it is moved but after that it should grow faster. I also noticed that it does much better under a bluer light (true 14K or 20K) than under yellow 10Ks. This tort in the pic was mostly under a 20K. Growth after 6 months.
