I had a quick question- In a couple of years or so I will be moving to Germany for about 3 years or so and while I don't plan on bringing my tank with me, I was thinking of setting up a 100 gallon cube or something while I was there. I would most likely be at Ramstein or Spangdahlem Air Bases and I was wondering if there are some reefers that live nearby that I could buy a bunch of nice frags from to start with when I get there. I would also like to get an idea of how much tanks are there so I know ahead of time whether to bring one with me or not. Like I said, it'll be a while before I get over there but I was just thinking about and and was curious....thanks!

I live in the south of Germany so I can not help you with any contacts in the area you plan to move. Generally I would say the prices of the most equipment is similar to the US market. Most of the livestock, especially SPS corals are a little bit cheaper over her, around 20 – 30 %.
What really would be a problem at the beginning is the metric system so a quick reference table could be helpful if you buy equipment. The electric power in Germany is 220V so you could not run the electrical equipment without a converter from 110 to 220V.
Let me know if I can help you with anything further you like to know.

Thanks! The power would definately be an issue- I think I would probably just buy all of my equipment there with the exception on sulfur denitrator/reactor, Kalk reactor and Protein skimmer, all of which I made myself. I would probably have to get new pumps for those though :-) Can 220 Eheims with needlewheels be gotten cheaper there than here in the states?

Its not very common over here to buy a pump with a needle wheel separate for a DIY skimmer for example. Maybe as a skimmer could be a huge investment you should take your 110V skimmer with you running at on a converter. As your time in Germany is limited you could furthermore use the skimmer in the States if you move back.
This is a link to a Germany online shop which offers most of the equipment. Exchange rate today is:
1 Euro = 1.18937 US Dollar
1 US Dollar (USD) = 0.84078 Euro (EUR)
