  • Certain sps lightining up

I just recently lowered my halide photo period to 5 hrs, and thinking on going back to 20k's because i think i am getting too much light now.
I run 400w 10k's on luminarcs. Some of my acro's look great nd some are bleaching from too much light. (Valida, purple bbonsai,NANA and the likes of those.) The rest of the corals look good so far.
Is AAHC reccomended to reverse this? Thinking on ordering some when i refill my CV.
My ca is 450, alk is 7dkh, mag is 1350-1400, nitrates undetectable, and same with po4, Ph is 8.1-8-3.
Everything has and is steady. The halides i just lowered the photo period to 5 hrs from 6 and that from 7, and that from 10 hrs from before ZEO. Big differance Eh?
I am on phase 2, and will be on phase 3 in 2 weeks.
    Any reccomendations in addatives?
180 mixed reef, extreme 40gal frag tank, 33 gal sump,30 gal fuge, profilux plus II controller, profilux doser, GEO 618 CA/RX tunze 6100's, BK 250 internal, 2 400watt halides, 4 blue plus t-5's on icecap ballast, I run GFO, and dose vodka, sugar, and vinigar with ammino acids, and use somewhat of the balling method.

Hi Alex, as nutrients become depleted light emission reaching the corals increases & nutrient-lowering results in less zoox. density, & therefore lightening of the corals. Bleaching is different in degree. I'd recommend raising the lighting, changing the lighting to a higher Kelvin[as you've done]or switching to 250W MH. Be sure your carbon, & zeolite quantity is correct/zeoguidelines as is the flow rate. AAHC at 1 drop/25g net/day will help immensely but bleaching can still occur if the basic quantities is not on target. [carbon 1 Cup/100g net][zeolite 1 ltr/100g net with a flow rate of 50-100gph for each ltr. used.] I would pull out the carbon for 3 days, then place it back into the sump at 1/2 the previous amt. Turn down the zeolite reactor abit for the rest of this zeolite-period.

Can you give me your present zeo-dosages? Thnx. Bob

Thanks bob, I run the suggested target in liths and carbon, I was on the conservative side sying i have 150 gallons of tottal water volume. I'll be adding a frag tank to it in a month or so. (50 gallons)
Youre right there is a differance and i should state they are lightining not bleaching.
I am getting the AAHC and going to use it and see what the results are.
Its mainly the lowerlight liking sps that are affected. The others look better than they have before ZEO.
I just have to lower them all the way down i guess, and try a higher kelvin bulb as i am not a fan of the 250's spread on my tank.

I am on a lowered zeo dosage because of that brown fuzz that grew because i had too slow of flow thru the reactor. Since then i sped up the flow on the RX and lowered my zeo doses to 4 drops of bac and food 2 times a week, and .5 ml of start 2 times a day.
The growth went away and was replaced by a red growth and 2 weeks after its almost gone.
Water has been crystal clear, I mean it sparkles like a diamond. LOL

Alex, the zeo-dosing is correct. To allow the corals to adapt better[especially deep-water], do place them in a shaded areas if possible. If not, I'd pull the carbon, then reduce it quantity, & adjust the reactor as mentioned previously. Bob

Thanks bob! So reduce the flow rate in the RX? I'll pull the carbon for 3 days and add half the dose when i put it back in.
          Thanks again!!!

Most of these corals were drab before ZEO. Look how its done me so far, I cannot complain one bit.
