Actually ... one of the beauties of the ZEOvit system is that it feeds corals. The food generated by the system ... a bacteria aggregate (think "marine snow") ... is typically referred to as "mulm".

Many folks have been feeding their SPS with a supplement product, Pohl's Coral Vitalizer ... you can read more about it HERE.

Recently there was a discussion on Phytoplankton Reactors ... HERE.

There's a thread on the culturing of live foods ... HERE.

Here's a discussion about when to feed corals ... feeding time (coralite;11.06.2005).

Ger is the username of a ZEO*************. Ger's signature is a sight ... but thank the Gods of reefkeeping that it has not transcended to being a site just yet. The signature reads, "Fish eat poop....tastes just like chicken."

What is truly disturbing is his animated avatar ... in the words of Count Floyd, "Verrry spoooky!". You can view both the avatar and signature at ... among other places ... View Profile: Ger .

As far as sps goes, most ecologists agree that stony corals are predominantly carnivorous/zooplanktivorous. With that said, I must say that I feed my sps tank cyclopeeze religiously and almost exclusively , that is, this is the only food that I intentionally feed. SOme debate the capacity of sps to capture it but the following image shows a seriatopora (bird nest coral) with a cyclopeeze already in its gut. The only sps that may not be able to capture CE is anacropora as it has even smaller polyps than BN. Additionally, I think that people underestimate the value of scraped (and stirred) tank surfaces but I feel that these can play a siginificant nutritional role if you have a high surface area to tank volume ratio.

Alas, I am somewhat in the dark when it comes to PCV and the nutritional process of zeovit.

Perhaps this will help with visualizing how a coral mucus microbial community contributes to the feeding of corals ...
