  • Need a little help BOB

    Hey Bob,

I started my tank over from scratch about 5 weeks ago (as you know I was sick and had to quit reefing for awhile). I started over with everything, new sand, new live rock, etc. Since starting over my tank is fine except I have a crazy outbreak of green hair algae (which I just picked up a purple tang to help with that today) and my one piece of coral is browning out.

When I started over you gave me a dosing schedule for the basic 4 but I don't know if I conveyed that I was starting over from scratch.

Here is what you told me for my 40 gallon tank:

1 drop zeobak on Mon, Weds, Fri
1 drop zeofood on Mon, Weds, Fri
    3 drops of zeostart1 everyday

Do you still agree with this schedule? I am assuming my coral is browning out because of the large amount of hair algae which tells me my Po4's are still high with the tank being new and all.

    Thanks.

Hi Brad, do you know the N03's/P04's levels? Your TDS of your product water? Are you dosing any zeo-supplements, ie. AAHC or C-V, etc.? Thnx. Bob

      Hey Bob,

No I don't know the levels, don't have a hanna meter and it's too low for the Salifert tests. No nitrates or nitrites according to Salifert. Don't know the TDS of the water I get, haven't tested it yet since I moved. I will test it tonight (I get my water from Whole Foods).

      I am dosing zeosupplements

1 drop of aminos Mon and Fri
1 drop of potassium Mon and Fri
1 drop of Iodine Mon and Fri
      2 drops of CV everyday
I ordered more Macroelements but I haven't recieved it yet
      1.6 ML of zeospur2 every 2 weeks.

        Bob,

I should also mention that my alk is low right now at 4.65 DKH. As of yesterday I have started dosing 5ml of alk from B-ionic a day to try to bring it back up. Calcium and magnessium are at the appropriate levels.

Just tested my water and it is at 23ppm. Isn't that a little high?

            Brad:

Not Bob here by any stretch of the imagination but I do know he recomends that your TDS readings of your product water should be less than 5.

Hi Brad, Jamie's correct. With TDS-laden product water it will look like a freshwater plant aquarium :axe: You'll need to find a purer source for your water. Bob

Brad, I am not sure if you already have corals in the tank, if not, I would Stop using those products until you introduce the first SPS:

1 drop of aminos Mon and Fri
                2 drops of CV everyday

                Just the basics (ZeoVit – Carbon – ZeoBac – ZeoFood – ZeoStart2)

Those products should be dosed later if you work on the colouration:

1 drop of potassium Mon and Fri
1 drop of Iodine Mon and Fri
I ordered more Macroelements but I haven't recieved it yet
                1.6 ML of zeospur2 every 2 weeks

Yeah, I have one coral in the tank. I am going to go back to my original water source which used to test at 3ppm even though the water store is 30 minutes away. I tested the water at my local Whole Foods tonight and it tested at 37ppm. I was shocked it was so high.
