  • This little tank of mine, Ima let it shine! let me tell you...

First things first, lets get the ? out of the way

    1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.)
    36g+40g= 76G roughly

    2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.)
    36G display+40g sump+80 lbs fiji rock= approx. net 40G I think

    3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique
    Yup a MR CR-2

    4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.)
    nope

    5. Are you using Ozone
i am debating either using ozone or starting zeovit

    6. Are you using UV
    nope

    7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume)
    H&S skimmer A150 F2001 rated at 225G

    8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels
    both undetectable on salifert kits

    9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels
    Ca 440, Alk 9.0, Mg 1320-1380

    10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.)
BB w/ filter socks on overflow, along w/ skimmer detritus siphoning when needed

    11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.)
10K AB 250W MH on icecaps+2 supplemental 24 in super actinics

    12. What corals do you keep
    60% SPS 40% LPS

    13. Tissue color (light or dark)
dark colors not brown but not crazy over the top IMO, hence my interest in Zeo

    14. How long has the tank been running
    1 year and 1 month

    15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system
its reef trendy ..lol j/k..coloration definetly

    16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.)
ARM media w/ Zeomag in the CR, along with monthly 35%-40% WC w/ TM salt

    17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.)
80lbs, ive had the rock for about 3 yrs w/ me, it has been cooked before I went BB for 2 mths

    18. Any present problems
Just found out I have red bugs Interceptor is being ground up as we speak

    19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
slightly less PE and slightly less color

    20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.)
Salifert, all have been bought in the last 3 mths

    21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.)
    N/A

    22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.)
    1.025 SG, 78F-81F deg, pH 7.9-8.1 110x turnover

I am really into keeping this tank very clean but not sterile (read; feed my fish more than once a month..lol) I am upgrading all my equipment before I bite the bullet down the road and setup a 200g+. This mini reef is my science project (see pics below, gf says it looks like a mad scientist lair) and so far it has been a successful one but if I can see a difference then I will make a note of it for the future. I am open to the experience and look forward to any and all feedback I can recieve.

    so shall we?

Hi DrZL, & welcome to ZEOvit.com With the ZEOvit method the parameters are like those of NSW: Ca>400<450/Mg>1200<1400/KH 6-8 & stable/salinity 1.023-26. You'll need to decrease your KH <8 with ZEOvit to avoid coral consequences. "Enriched" saltmixes as TM's or Reef Crystals is not recommended as the salt should be low in elements as they are in NSW. Many here use the new SeaChem's reefsalt which works well with one's CR in keeping the parms as above. I personally use 50%-50% Oceanic-IO with great color & growth but will try SeaChem in place of IO for a time. Be sure to read & understand well the ZEOvit guide & other stickies at the top of this forum. For your system, I recommend the following:

1)place 1/2 Cup carbon in a filter sock, kneaded 3-4 x's/wk & exchanged monthly. I highly recommend the K-Z's carbon over other brands for the best color rendition of your corals.
2)place 1/2 ltr. zeolites in a zeo-filter with a flow rate of 50gph. This is important to be on target as close as possible. Cycle the stones on & off at 3hr. intervals. Use a peg-timer for this. Be sure the stones remain submerged under the waterline when the zeo-filter is "off". A inline check-valve between the pump & zeo-filter maybe necessary[to prevent back-siphoning] Clean the stones 1-2x's/day about 10 reps each time. Exchange the zeolites every 6wks.
3)dose 2 drops Bak & Food7 daily for 2wks. then 2 drops each 2x's/wk. Dose these only when the filter is "on" & always in front of the zeo-filter pump. Turn off your skimmer for 60min after dosing these. ZeoBak is refrigerated [also C-V]
4)dose .1ml Start2 2x's/day. Also dose this near the filter pump when "on". It is not necessary to turn off your skimmer when just dosing Start2.
5)optional but recommende:dose 3 drops AAHC & 6 drops C-V daily, directly into the display tank. You do not need to turn off your skimmer when dosing the zeo-supplements.

Ask questions, as there are many experienced ZEOvit users more than willing to help, if you have problems or questions, Bob

              Nick,
I'm still on the fence, but theres seems to be something to this! Always wanna push it to another level!

Question: Will my interceptor dose cancel out or delay using ZEOvit? Wonder if itll stay in the rocks and come out at a later time? hmmmm...any help would be appreciated

Hi Andre, I have not used the treatment, but many here have while using ZEOvit, as Interceptor does not affect our bacterial densities. Maybe PM Jeff[gqjeff] as he has & do a search here on "Interceptor". HTH, Bob

                    Cool.

I will dose today and soon enough Ill get my hands on ZEO additives and zeolites, any basic pack recommendation?

Could you please expand on enriched salt formulas, i use to use Oceanic, stopped after I could skim out crap from a fresh bath for my WC, TM has done wonders for me so I'd be hard pressed to change it. Is it high phos? or are all levels elevated?

Hi Andre, the choice of a perfect salt for all reefs is still elusive, as reefs with the similar nutrient levels & lighting, will have dissimilar water composition of the elements which affects our coral colors differently. With ZEOvit method over time, the nutrients become more poor, so too should the essential elements in our waters so that darkening of coral colors does not occur. Therefore, the general recommendation for zeo-users not to use "enriched-formula" salts. As mentioned, all reefs will vary & if you're happy with TM's Pro Reef or Reef Crystals salt, obviously, you should continue to use it. I have not used it but you can test your TM salt, well mixed overnight, at a salinity of 1.025 for Ca/Mg/KH/N03's/P04's. Bob
