  • Iodine, Potassium Iodine, Iodine Complex-Whats the difference?

Whats the difference between the three products?

I'm a nonzeovit user at this time but started using CV and have had some pretty good results and I'm considering using the the following additional supplements:

    -CV
    -Amino Acids
-Iodine ----But which one should I use?

    Any others?

Glad you like the C-V--use 2 drops/25g net volume daily. Iodine helps coloration, giving a stronger hue, but too strong a concentration will brown, darken our corals & in heavy excess will result in algae booms. Potassium-Iodide-Flouride's comcentration has been correlated to enhance our corals blues, iliacs, & purples in our corals. It can be overdosed also, so follow the ZEOvit guidelines on it's dosage. You will be surprised what it does for your coral's color. AAHC is a necessary alternative energy source for our corals when nutrient-poor waters exist[which is a prerequisite for SPS color] The elements in AAHC will intensify SPS growth, color & health. Again, follow the dosing guide as in excess corals can become too dark or a thick brown biofilm layers our viewing panes & tank bottoms. All zeo-supplements are much more effective when used in a low nutrient reef. Bob

      Bob-

I don't have the ZEO iodine additive, but I do have a bunch of Lugols sitting around. I hit a store going out of business and got five bottles at $3.50 each ;-).

I have been dosing my 300g (270g net) with two drops once per day, and wanted to get your input.

Hi Marc, PIF has a different iodine-effect on our corals, as PIF also contains other special elements which exert a synergistic affect than just iodine alone can do. Marc, be careful with Lugol's as it's a highly concentrated iodine solution. I've never used Lugol's but my guess would be to reduce the 2 drop dosage to just 2x's/wk?? Bob

Will do. So far I have seen no ill affects, and I have been dosing at this level for several months.

Good Marc, you are probably fine as you're dosing --iodine in excess will darken[dull] the coral's color or fuel algae outbreaks. Bob

So you recommend using both the Iodine and Potassium Iodide, not one by itself?

I'm not a zeovit user so I didnt know if these two supplements would be benefical to my system.

The CV has worked pretty well so far. Why do you recommend doubling the CV dosage and not going by what the label says?

I would say that my system is low in nutrients because its a Barebottom system, I dont run a refugium, and I feed my fish maybe 3-4 times a week. PO4 on my Hanna is like .02.

Hi, with a Hanna reading of .02 P04, you should enjoy the effect that AAHC/PIF has on your corals. I do not recommend using Lugol's or KI, but I can not say these would not be fine, it's just difficult to gauge the quantity to dose, whereas, the PIF dosage is straight forward from the ZEOvit guide, & again it contains another metal halide that can be beneficial to our corals. Others who have used both state, that PIF exerts a better color effect to the corals with the ease of not dosing too much, although PIF can be dosed in excess also, so one should dose strictly with the guidelines.

C-V's dosage is 1-3 drops/25g net/day. Try the 2 drops/25g net for a time & judge for yourself after 1-2 wks--you should notice increased p-e & some new growth spurts. Can you show pix's of C-V effects on your corals thus far? Thnx. Bob
