  • What Salt do Zeovit users recommend?

Curious as to what salt the zeovit users recommend?

  • #2
I've tried most, and so far the Sea Chem Reef salt has been the best for me and my system. Parameters are very much inline with NSW.
Look here for more info on the Sea Chem Salt.

Can the Seachem users comment on the elevated Boron levels this salt has?

Its to my understanding its around 3x higher than NSW but isnt toxic until about 6x. Just curious if this is a concern to anyone?

I can't comment on the boron levels as I have no way to test them. I hadn't heard the boron thing yet. What are the signs of OD? How would one know when levels are getting near toxic?

Its to my understanding that levels dont build up, its just the fact that they use higher levels of that element for PH stability or something like that.

I want to use the salt, was just asking around trying to find out if that element is a concern or should it be a concern.

I did for a while, but the CA was off the charts well over 500 ppm and Alk was way low, around 6. Mg was also very low. My tank did not react favorably to the salt mix. Colors got very washed out so I would have to assume it to be low in Potassium as well. For a predominately SPS tank, I would not recommend this salt if your running the Zeo method or striving to maintain close to NSW levels.

I used to but I was not able to keep my alk low enough with it.

Exactly, Paul's experience is the common problem with just using IO. I've found the 50%-50% IO-Oceanic to work perfectly with my CR.

BTW, Chad, welcome to ZEOvit.com. With the ZEOvit method, parameters mirror those of NSW levels, ie. Ca>400<450/Mg>1200<1400/KH 6-8 & narrowly stable/salinity 1.023-.26 & narrowly stable. If one can maintain stable parameters, then using ZEOvit is easy to maintain SPS health & coloration, HTH, Bob
