  • Considering Zeovit

I am considering trying Zeovit and this would be on a freshly set-up tank. Here's my info:

    1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.)
110gal. Tank and 18gal. sump (total water volume before rock)

    2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.)

    3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique
    Calcium Reactor will be used

    4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.)
    No

    5. Are you using Ozone
    No

    6. Are you using UV
    No

    7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume)
    MRC MR-2 Beckett Style

    8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels
    N/A

    9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels
    N/A
    10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.)
    BB Tank, 100-125 lbs. LR

    11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.)
    2x250w MH 10k, 220w VHO

    12. What corals do you keep
    SPS

    13. Tissue color (light or dark)
    N/A

    14. How long has the tank been running
    N/A

    15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system

    16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.)
Kalk to help maintain higher pH due to Calcium Reactor

    17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.)
    Cooked LR, Fiji, 100-125 lbs.

    18. Any present problems
    N/A

    19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
    N/A

    20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.)
    Salifert

    21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.)
    N/A

    22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.)
    N/A

I would build my own reactor, but i'm wondering, with the basic zeovit system, how much can I plan on spending a year for supplies? Any other advice/recommendations are welcome.

For just the basic 4 you are looking at roughly $300 a yr or less..
    9 bags liths a yr a $19.99 a bag or $179.91 total
    50ml zeobac at $89.88
    50ml food at $19.99
250 Start2 at $44.99 You will most likely not use all of the last 3 in a yr at net 80-85 gallons total water volume.

    Jeff

P.S. System also requires carbon 24/7 changed out at 4 weeks.. I recommend the KZ activated carbon also.. $24.99 per bag and each would last roughly 3-4 months for your size system if I rem correctly... I would also HIGHLY recommend the CV and AAHC as additional supps to run...

      Thanks Jeff.

I didn't see any mention of kalk in the Zeo Guide. Has something with this changed? I thought you couldn't use Kalk with the Zeovit system.

Is the Zeobac the only of the basic 4 with a shelf life?

Yes only one with a shelf life. Some have been using kalk with no adverse reactions.. You will have to ask others on that subject though as I have never dosed kalk since starting the tank on zeo... If you want dosing instructions let us know.

        Thanks, Jeff

Hi Ereefic, & congrats on beginning the ZEOvit method. You will be amazed how easy it maintains SPS. Jeff will be by to give you your starting zeo-dosing. Bob

Ereefic, Start off with 3/4 cup zeoliths at a flow of 75 gallons per hr and shake stones 2x daily. If you can cycle the reactor 3 on 3 off with the stones staying under water do that for the first few change outs. Start off with .6ml daily of start 2 over 2-3 doses if possible so .2ml 3x daily. For bac and food dose 3 drops daily for the first 2 weeks then 2x weekly until the first changeout at 6 weeks. After the first changeout you will start with bac and food every other day for 2 weeks then 2x weekly... Carbon should be used at 1 cup per 100 gallons so start off with 3/4 cups in passive flow and knead the bag daily if posssible.. If you have any other questions please ask.

            Jeff

you can even talk about DSB's

Excellent. This is the only process that I've found which consistently produces the kind of results I'm looking for with my ecosystems. And please continue to share your experiences and perspective ... whether they involve zeovit or not.
