  • Where to drill tank?

I'm adding a 100g acrylic to my soft coral system and it's used but never been drilled.

I don't need to run much water from this tank through the sump, just enough to keep it mixed with the other tanks so return flow will be minimal. If I wanted to run more through it I'd just do a hang-on u-tube box but I don' think I'll have enough flow to keep the bubbles from building up in the "U".

Is there any difference in drilling the back vs the bottom? Bottom will just go straight down under the counter and elbow to the sump. Through the back I'll need to do the same but an additional elbow inside the tank. Either way it will just be a standpipe over flow that I can adjust up or down to get the correct water level.

It shouldn't make a difference. If the back hole would be near the top, then there is a difference because of how far the tank would drain in a leak, but it it's near the bottom, then there isn't much difference between the two.

Thanks Madison... looking at the tank again it seems the back is a lot thicker than the side/front/bottom. Maybe the blue back is adding to the actual thickness. This tank came from Ken BTW.
