  • Going Zeo, a few recommendations are always appreciated.

    Well after months of reading on zeovit.com I am entertaining the thought of using the zeovit system in my tank. The reasons that I am looking at the zeovit system are: 1. because I have a shallow sandbed and I believe that the zeo system will help in nutrient removal; 2. I am looking tor more color out of my corals mostly in the blue and yellow ranges. Greens and reds/pinks seem to do well. 3. I am addicted to upgrading

    Info on the system(I will post a pic when I get home)
    I 1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.)
    80 gallons
    2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.)
    60 gallons
    3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique
    I am dosing 1.5 Tbs/gallon dripped at night of kalk. I just recieved a Acquatic System Designs CA reactor that I need to hook up. Media will be Knop Coarse(6-10mm)
    4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.)
    I was using a phosban reactor with Purigen and removed it 3 months ago(this is one of the reasons I am looking at zeo)
    5. Are you using Ozone.
    Yes, and it would be the hardest thing to give up in the switch. ORP=400
    6. Are you using UV
    No
    7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume)
    Euroreef ES5-3. Rated to 80-100gal. I am thinking about doing the recirc mod and getting the new impeller when it comes out. I would like to wait till I get a frag tank to get a new skimmer(Deltec 701).
    8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels
    P04 =0(Salifert, no Hanna colorometer around) No3=0
    9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels
    CA=375
    Alk = 9dkh
    MG= 1250
    All Salifert
    10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.)
    Small 8 gal refugium with cheato and 24hr lighting, SSB, no "gimicks"
    11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.)
    2x39watt T5 Ati Blue Plus run on Workhorse ballast
    4x39watt(3-10k, 1actinic running 60 watts a piece) on Icecap 660
    12. What corals do you keep
    Mostly SPS(Acros and Montis), a few zoos and a few LPS, 3 clams and one sebae
    13. Tissue color (light or dark) dark but colorful
    14. How long has the tank been running
    12 months with 1 move 8 months ago
    15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system
    Color, nutrient levels
    16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.)
    Kalk and 3 Tbs of TM Biocalcium/week
    17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.) 8months - 2 years. Some came out of a tank of mine and some from a 1000gallon reef
    18. Any present problems Small crops of Valonia that is now receeding due to RO replacement, very"loose" hair algae.
    20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.)SAlifert 6month old

    22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.)
    Salinity= 1.025
    Temp= 79.5-80.2
    PH= 8.5-8.35

    15 gallon water changes are done weekly with Reef Crystals salt. All water is RO with 0tds and am in the process of hooking up a DI

    Any other info that might help let me know.
    I am looking for dosing info(other than first stage, unless different from captive oceans), Product recommendations(AAHC, CV, I, etc.)

    My plan was to use .5L zeo in a phosban reactor.

    Thanks
    J

      not jeff but....

      .5L of zeovit in your phosban reactor with approx 50gph, shake/stir daily
      .5ml's of zeostart split into two dosages daily.
      2 drops zeobac daily
      2 drops zeofood daily
      .5 cups of activated carbon in passive flow (knead carbon 2-3 times a week)

      If you use AAHC and CV then add 2 drops of each daily.

        J, as Bob has stated get you dKH in a range 6-8 and stable.. Also raise your Ca up to 400-420 range.. Mg is fine and so is the salinity, temp, and PH... When you lower the dKH you might notice PH drops also this is normal and there will be no adverse effects from this as well.. I currently run 7.9-8.2 night to day.. I also highly recommend the CV and AAHC. If you get the CV you can do 2 drops morning and evening with lights out if you can. Madisons dosing schedule looks fine for now.. If you have any others questions please feel free to ask.. SOrry it took so long to get to you and welcome to zeovit.com

          I forgot to say that the food/bac are dosed daily only for the first two weeks, after that you should reduce it to 2 times a week.

            jvham,

            I live in the area and am also interested in doing zeovit. I have a few friends (tagareef and bkbkid) who are also going to be doing zeovit. If you want, I can see if we can get a discount from a local wholesaler if we each purchase a lot of items.

            Please send me a PM on RC if interested. Sorry for hijacking the thread.
