  • aagghh 5 months of hard labour and now this!!

Spent the last 5 months removing 1000lbs of sand, removing all my LR for scrubbing and detritus removal (semi cooking), meticulously rebuilding the aquascape bit by bit and now that it is all coming together and I see light at the end of the tunnel I find out I have the damn AEFW!!!

Sometimes it seems like this hobby is just one long drawn out process of disasters, trouble shooting and fixing things and just when you think you can sit back to relax and enjoy your tank this happens: :headshot:

Hi Timon your scenario will light up the end of the tunnel & then blast the hell out of your reef with intank current. Bob

Timon, sometimes live can be so unfair. Good luck by eliminating those bastards.

Timon, this makes things easier. Please make sure you observe the colonies for the eggs before you reintroduce them in the tank.

Sorry to hear it, sometimes it could be frustrating.

Still weighing my options but most probably I will move all my favorite colonies to a 100 gallon prop tank plumbed to the same sump as my 400 gallon, the remaining colonies that don't fit will go into the trash.

Once a week I will disconnect the prop tank from the main system and treat it with Levamisole for 5 hours, then I will drain all water from this prop tank, replace it with water from the main tank and replace the main tank water with fresh salt water.

Repeat four times and after a month hope the FW life cycle has been broken. I'll use filter socks to make sure FW's can't travel to the main system but without acropora there they couldn't survive for more than a week regardless.

In the mean time I am going visit every church, temple, mosk and shrine and pray for Neptune to look favorably upon my plight to maintain a small piece of his kingdom in my living room

Timon, not sure if you know this thread, it contains some useful information:

From my experience in the past, levamisole had not really a impact to those critters.

Turkey baster and wrasses..... I think these have been around for a LONG time and we are just now knowing what to look for.. I bet MANY people have infected tanks that actually do not know it as of right now.. Be persistant and you can and will beat them... I have 2 other reefers I talk to often that have beaten them in the last 6 months... No colony losses or anything. Good luck Timon...

Try a 6-line wrasse, yellow wrasse and leopard wrasse combo. I bet the trio will do the trick of eliminating the pests naturally..

Had this problem with the actual tank about 3 years ago, but finally I won the fight

Timon is now affected and I am sure he will also beat them, lots of patience is necessary.

Farish, excellent choice of fish !
