  • Hermits good or bad for reef tanks ?

Looking for some thoughts about this .Will they eat coral ?

no, they are fine. Just dont get a ton of them they will starve in a zeovit tank in a few months as you wont have much for them to eat.

They will not eat coral but they will climb them all they day long... If you have two or three that is probably OK but if you get like 10 or 20 or more it will cause serious irritation to your corals. You'll also need to make sure your corals are attached firmly or they will fall over when the hermits climb onto them.

If you are looking for clean up creatures then brittle stars are a much better choice

I just got rid of my serpant star he became a fish killer .He got three before I figured it out .I still have a chocolate chip star .I was just wondering because I noticed that they were on one of my corals and wasn't sure if they were eating or just cleaning .

Right you want brittle stars, not the big green smooth serpent stars, those are evil

If you value any sponge life in your tank you might want to find a home for the chocolate chip star. Once they eat all the preferred food who knows what it will go after next.

                Whoa ... ... it's not cleaning. It's eating ...

Danger Will Robinson ... Danger ... Protoreastor nodosus is an opportunistic omnivore.

These carnivorous stars have big appetites and grow to 8+ inches in diameter ... They'll eat pretty much any sessile (non-motile) or slow-moving animal they can ... They are not reef-safe, BTW. They love to eat soft corals.

He wasn't smooth he was very spikey very .But he would wait until the dark of night and slip into the rocks were the firefish would sleep or get on the top of the rocks and try to jump down on slower fish swimming by .

So your saying I should take the other one to the fish store
