    Updates on the fish population:
First off--3 Tinkeri's was a mistake. The largest and middle size ones paired off and the smallest one went off in the corner and said, "no one loves me" and just died. No harassment, just....went to the corner and died.

Second off--One pipefish decided that the closed loop intake was just too interesting....the other is fine, and in fact both were eating cyclopseeze and one ate mysis last night....

    Flasher wrasses are cool.....

I love flasher wrasses! Actually I love all wrasses, especially those bird wrasses.

Sorry to hear about the losses.

Something to never say to a female reefkeeper: "Your wrasse looks great." Or worse, "Your wrasse looks a little big in there." or "Your wrass has really grown.".

The "common useage" names for this group are irritatingly varied ...

If we're talking about Paracheilinus filamentosus ("Filamented Flasher Wrasse"), then ...

          Emarginate caudal fin become lunate in males; 2-6 soft dorsal rays of males greatly prolonged (the odd-numbered rays beginning with the first); may be slightly prolonged in females (not so in Philippine adult females);

          Extracted From:
Fishbase.org, Morphology page on Paracheilinus filamentosus

Emarginate: Having the margin notched; with a notch or series of notches.
          Lunate: Crescent-shaped; half-moon shaped.

Lord help me ... I love taxonomic nomenclature ...

Also of interest may be ...

Found in rubble areas in passages and outer reef slopes. Also occurs in lagoons. Feeds on zooplankton and other benthic invertebrates. Some geographical variations of nuptial males that are influenced by the presence of similar species. Occurs in small to large groups usually in depths of 10 m or more. Usually most common at about 25 m depth. Males readily display to each other or to females to spawn by flashing their colors and 'racing' past with erected fins. Hybridizes with several other species, and are most colorful where other similar species occur in the same area (Ref. 48636).

          Extracted From:
          Paracheilinus filamentosus
Fishbase.org's General Data page on Paracheilinus filamentosus

Doh ... I hate it when I miss the obvious ...

Concave ... there's a pretty good pic on P. 424 of Dr. Burgess' Atlas of Marine Aquarium Fishes (3rd Edition).

Timon, Alois brings up a valid point, one that we all must comtemplate--which wrasses are really compatible in a BB reef? My thread recently on this provided the answers from are members Bob

I thought it was the Tinkeri that died? Are the wrasses dead too?
