  • Help! some corals not doing well

Hi, I have been running zeo for about 3 months now and some of my montiporas are losing color and not doing well. Also some of my acros look like they are receding from the base up? My parameters are temp 79, salinity 1.025,calcium 400, alk 8, mag 1100, phosphate .11 . Dosage 1liter zeovit, .4ml start each day
bak 4 drop twice a week, food 2 drops twice a week, 11/2 cup of carbon. 5 drops c-v everyday. Not sure what to do! Please help

Have you had any temp swings at all? Also, your Mg is real low, Id bump it up around 1400. Although Mg might not be the main problem, it could be a contributing factor. How are you testing for Phosphate, because its high as well. A good rule of thumb is to not ever be able to read any phosphate on a test kit. Those two together are probably it base-up recession usually is contributed to nutrients

Hi Mark, raise your Mg level ~1250-1300 & maintain this parmeter. Low Mg can result in color fade or TN. Use Seachem's Mg supplement or Kent's Mg to raise, then Mg granules in your CR for maintenance. Increase C-V to 8drops/day. BTW, what saltmix are you using? Thnx. Bob

I test the phospate with a Hanna meter. It has gone up right after introducing zeo and now seems to be slowly coming down.

        I use crystal sea salt.

Thnx. Mark, I'd also recommend since you use Crystal Sea salt, that you obtain K-Balance[add K+] I dose 3ml K-B for 3 days, then 1 ml daily until your corals appear healthly. Bob

Bob is there a problem with using Crystal Sea with zeo? I have a fuge with carlupa in it. Should I take this out? I still seem to have probloem with high po4.
              Is the esv magnesium ok?

Since its the hanna I def. agree with Bob on the Diagnosis. Stros, the po4 will go down with the Zeo Just be patient. Also the calurpa wiht eventually die off. Whem you see this happening I would yank it out, so that it does not release any chemicals into you tank

Mark, the ESV Mg is fine & I've never used Crystal Sea but monitor Mg more frequently & do use K-B as above, Bob

                    Loss of colour

                    Hi

I too am seeing loss of colour on my Montis (green) and some of the Acros (Blue)

I have been dosing as per recommendation for 6 weeks now with no improvement in colouration at all in the tank generally.

My params are Calcium 480, dKh 9, Mg 1440, sg 1.025, Temp 23c, Phosphate 0 (Deltec), Nitrate 0

I use Kent Salt, top-up with RO water only (I stopped using Kalk at the start). 2 cups of KZ Carbon in passive shaken every day or so.

My tank is 150 Gallons with 1 ltre of stones in a cannister filter with a 100gph 3 hr on 3 hr off cylce.

No other additives, I have considered AAHC and KV but not taken the plunge.

                    I have a Giesmann 2 x 250w Metal Halide (bulbs are 1 year old).

I use a Aquac-EV180 skimmer which I am thinking is the weak link as it doesn't skim very well.

I have 2 very healthy Anemones, lots of mushrooms and polyps, 6 very healthy fish. No unsightly algae or diatoms, water appears very clear.

I am considering stopping the process here and seeing what the result would be.

                    Any ideas for me.

                    Thanks

                    Andrew

Hi Andrew, I understand your frustration but stay the course, be patient & you'll have all the color you can handle with ZEOvit.

With ZEOvit, the parameters must be at NSW levels--Ca>400<450/Mg >1200<1400/dKH 6-8, with anything over 8 very detrimental to coral health[color/growth]. Plz. get your parms inline, this may take readjusting your CR. Once these are inline, coloration can improve. Bob
