  • Zeovit update

My Zeovit has been running for three weeks now and i have notice some changes as far as polyps extension and coloration, water is crystal clear. My water parameter is

    Ca 450
    Mg 130
    KH 7.0
I haven't test for nitrate, nitrite or phosphase yet.
I dose bak, food and start three time a week for the next week till i change the Zeovit media. Please advice for the next phase. All my SPS doing very well, But xenia look kind of funky. I already removed all the cheato and use the refugium as a frags tank.

Hi Steve, if your corals appear fine, then the dosages can remain the same. The dosing frequency, however, new new zeolites for the 1st 2wks. will be every other day[not daily] then 2x's/wkfor the remainder of the zeolite-period, which is now extended to 6wks.

Nick, my Xenia do well in my reef except for some involution for a few days post Spur2 dosing. Bob

OOps, i dose every day for the first two weeks and now i dose three time a week. I read the Zeovit instruction and follow it. So the Zeovit need to change out every 6 weeks not 4? So i have been overdosing my tank lately.

the first batch of zeoliths change out at 4 weeks then after that its every 6 weeks. As for the dosing I always dose everyday of Start/food/bak for 2 weeks then food/bak 2x a week and start ddaily. This is what I have been doing since I started over a year ago. Maybe it every otherday now Bob please chime in if so ill change from everyday start dosing to every other day LMK also HTH

Generally, after the loading dosages for the 1st 2wks. Bak/Food7 are dosed 2x's/wk with the skimmer off for 60min. With Phase 1, Bak/Food is dosed daily for 2wks. With the first zeolite exchange[Phase 2] Bak/Food is dosed every other day for the 1st two wks. Thereafter, they are just dosed 2x's/wk[for the remaining 4 wks. of the 6wk. zeolite-cycle-period] ZeoStart2 is dosed daily, all the time with ZEOvit. This is the standard dosing schedule for the zeo's. Variations to this schedule can be done on a individual basis, based on visual cues for excess signs, such as frequent brown-green biofilm appearances on our panes, LR or LS/BB. Again generally, only a reduction in dosing quantity, not dosing frequency can correct these excess signs. However, in Phase 3 or 4, the loading dose schedule needs to be modified. For example, I dose Bak/Food with new zeolites only for 3 consecetive days, then go to the 2x's/wk dosing schedule, as I do not have enough nutrients in my system to utilize Bak/Food that the every other day dosing for the 1st 2wks produces, w/o overage signs of brown film accumulating on my panes. So i should dose bak and food 2/week and start is everyday. i haven't dose my start for two days is it ok though. What do you mean by brown film accumulating on the panes.

Hi Steve, if you take your hand across the inside of your reef tank, one can feel a slippery sensation from the transparent bacterial film, which is normal. In zeo-excess, this film appears darkened & thickened, usually visible as a tannish-brown or tannish-green color. Bob

Actually my LR is kind of green and slippery. I thought my phospate still high therefore the algea is growing. So i am not overdose or on the wrong track right?

Steve, if this is new green coloration on your LR then that's a sign of excess of Start2. Are you also dosing AAHC[aminoacids]? Thnx. Bob

because you just added that LR not so long ago. I can see your tank has a lot of improvements eventhough I know nothing about Zeovit. Keep up your study so you can teach me later.

Just use the „Manage Attachments“ button if you reply to a thread and insert the path to the file which you like to upload. If this is done, just hit the “Upload” button and the pictures should be shown in your post.

There is a maximum file size. I do not remember the correct number.
