  • How can I remove Coraline algae with out biological method

    Hi~ all~

I love purple algae spreading in my tank bottom glass, but hate in side glasses and

    overflow box (made of PVC)

I have used longpin sea urchin and they eat coraline very well, but it throws down(?)

my SPSs from rock. so I pulled out it.

Now I use the razor, it works very well in glass, but it is not easy to remove

coraline with razor in overflow box made of PVC.

Could you tell me your tip to remove it w/o biological method ?

    Thanks in advance~

      Greetings All !

Rick beat me to it. They also make cheesey little plastic scrapers for algae removal from acrylic, but a credit card works great. The shaft of a toothbrush will also work just fine. Anything which is softer than the PVC will not damage the PVC as you scrape away the coraline algae.

BTW, be careful with the razor blade (... not that you aren't!) ... it will etch the glass if you get a little too enthusiastic, or if the razor's edge becomes slightly jagged.

Why don't you insert in your tank many animals that eat algae?

                  Thanks golfish~

I heard raising the KH up helped removing coraline algae, but In zeovit

method 7~8 KH is recommanded cause it is like Sea water environment

(is it correct? ) so I maintain the KH 7.4

                  I will add more MH.

                  thanks..
