Tagging along. I heard that cv should be also.
180 mixed reef, extreme 40gal frag tank, 33 gal sump,30 gal fuge, profilux plus II controller, profilux doser, GEO 618 CA/RX tunze 6100's, BK 250 internal, 2 400watt halides, 4 blue plus t-5's on icecap ballast, I run GFO, and dose vodka, sugar, and vinigar with ammino acids, and use somewhat of the balling method.

Im assuming it has to do with less flow and larger pe. I think thats when they feed.

As AAHC does not contain any particles, I expect they are absorbed by the corals tissue. With this product I do not see any advantage of dosing it in the dark period.

CV also contains fine particles, which can be grabbed by the polyps. I dose it in the dark period while the corals have expanded their polyps to the maximum. Another benefit could be the weaker current in this time. I reduce flow to 30 % in the night time.

I read sumwhere that there was an experiment conducted and it was found that the SPS absorbed more Aminos when it was not during photosynthesis period. Cant remember exactly where I read it from tho.

Josh, some reefers do this to mimic the calming effect of the ocean's current at night. Personally, I run my current full-blast 24/7, to help with uplifting detritus[BB] into the water column. Personal choice, though.

Nick, I dose AAHC/C-V after the photo-period for two hypothetical reasons:

1)some studies suggest corals change their energy-gathering mechanism from photosynthesis to absorptive at night.
2)any excess nutrient source would less likely add to the photosynthetic process in our tanks at night, maybe decreasing the biofilm production in our reefs. Bob

Josh, basically to reduce the noise of the pumps in the living room over the night. I do not think this has a lot effect to the corals.

Mine slows a bit at night also with my tunze photocell... I notice no difference either way.. I do happen to dose all my products in the AM before lights on and then after the MH are off for the CV..
