  • K balance and Cleaner Shrimp

Since using K Balance, 2 of my 4 cleaner shrimp have died, and the other 2 are looking unwell.
Probably all a big coincidence, but thought I'd ask if anyone else has had anything like this?

That should have nothing to do with K-Balance. We have a few on K-Balance for months now here in the US and have had no problems like this. Anything else added to the tank? And predator fish in the tank?

Alastair, I dose K-Balance since September and have really used a huge quantity since then. I could no observe a negative impact to shrimps or only other animal.

OK, thanks, look like that's eliminated. I'll have to look elsewhere for the cause.
No predator fish in the tank, but the other 2 shrimps are not looking happy, I am sure there is something wrong. One of those little mysteries I guess, maybe it will just come right again.

Hi Alastair, it could be a problem of iodine deficiency?? Are you dosing any PIF? Thnx. Bob

Yes, thought of that , did look like it as it has happened at moult time, however I am dosing PIF.
However the 2 survivors are looking a bit better today & interested in food again, so perhaps it will just be an unexplained event.

How old are the shrimp ? I find they don't live longer than 2 years. I think i have read this somewhere as well ?!

One that died was a little over 2 years, the other I'm not sure I've had it maybe 6 months.

But on another note Brendan, remember a while ago you recommended i get a sailfin tang to eat the valonia? Well finally got a red sea one a few months ago, he was very small and could not eat the big valonia at first. But now he's getting into it, already the tank looking much better, and way he's going soon they will all be gone totally.

                So great advice! Much thanks!
