  • Is the zeovit method for me?

I have been battling high nitrates since my start in this hobby (10+ years). All other parameters are in line with the zeovit program. I perform aquarium husbandry chores regularly (water changes, testing, skimmer cleaning, etc). I have tried many different techniques to rid the nitrate preoblem (dsb, aquamedic, sulfur denitrators) with no success. My question is simple: Is this program the holy grail to correct the nitrate problem I face?

    Thanks for your input.

    welcome to Z.com,

Zeovit is not a holy grail not a miracle and no magice either, but it will surdenly take care of your nitrate problem,

if you should deside to go ahead with zeovit, please read the sticky "tell us about your tank" and start a thread with the info

Sorry ... no Holy Grails here ... would that it were so ...

What Thomas Pohl ... the creator of the ZEOvit system ... appears to have worked out is a methodology which efficiently binds/sequesters PO4 for export, feeds corals, and exports nitrification cycle products. Rather nicely, I might add ...

Indeed ... NO3 was never an issue in my Zeo-system.

          jwaltman21,

If I may presume ... I take it that you've attempted to resolve your nitrate issue "beneath" the level of mechanical/chemical/biological apparatus, and "system" philosophy, yes? The reason I ask is because persistent NO3 issues generally imply either an "input" problem, or a "reservoir" problem. By "input" problems, I mean things like feeding regiment, municipal water source contamination, and release of sequestered nutrients from live rock. By "reservoir" problems, I mean the release of sequestered nutrients from filter media, shallow sand beds, deep sand beds, and/or live rock.

I ask because its been my experience that without identifying and addressing the source of a contaminant, changing your system's filtration configuration could be unproductive.

Apologies if this is redundant for you ...

Without knowing more about the system in question, the specimens you are keeping, the specimens you may wish to keep in the future, and the "goals" for your tank, it's kind of hard for me to address specific questions regarding the applicablity of the ZEOvit system ...

... or any other system, for that matter ...

Looking forward to learning more about your tank! ...
