  • Clam Spawn pics

I have this large T. Deresa that spawns every few months, completely clouds up the tank for several hours. All spawnings seem to occur late evening. The event usually lasts for 1-2 hours spraying spunk every 5 minutes or so. Finally got a couple on camera. Post intentionally tamed down due to family related site.

Only other clam in the system is a smaller T. Maxima that is unaffected by the larger clams unsolicited affections.

Glad yours is a happy outcome.

In May, when I swapped tanks out, my clams decided to spawn. Turns out I had almost 40 clams at the time - A dozen of which were in the 12inch range.

In the morning 1500g of water was like pea soup. 5 days later, 2000g in water changes, and about 350 SPS ready for the Calc reactor the water finally cleared up.

Can someone say Clam chowder? I got a good NE style recipe if things get really out of hand. Any successful "matings" from your spawning event Dave?

Marshal, do you noticed any abnormal reaction in fish / corals or skimmer ? Are you doing anything after the spawning event or is the tank back to normal if the water has cleared up ?

Thanks for sharing, those are two very nice pictures.

I have never seen any deterimental effects/abnormal reactions to the livestock. By morning the tank is always clear again. I usually anticipate the skimmer going into overdrive but it doesn't change a bit. It always scares me tho when I walk downstairs and see my tank all cloudy.

Jus wanna share my experience with clam spawning. While I was converting my DSB to BB tank, I took out all acros and LS and put it in a holding tank w/o chiller. After converted to BB, my clam spawn for a few hours. My bet will be the change in temperature hence spawning occur.

I do not have suffer any losses but wake up to find my skimmer skimming out thick "white stuff"

Yours looks kinda chunky. Mine ejac errrr sprays out a cloud but very fine. I can see no visible clumps. Maybe male/female?
