  • Spur 2 question

I have been using ZEOvit for a while now and so far have been pleased. I wanted to take another step and try ZEOspur 2. I just received it today and am wondering how much I should dose. My tank's water volume is 90gal. All params. are in check. I dose start, food 7, bak, potassiumiodide, and aminoacids. I'm not sure what other info. I should give. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Nero,

1st we need to know what is your p04 level. Cause the effect of spur2 depend greatly on the current p04 level.

        Hi Nero,

Spur2 recommend a dose of 1ml per 100L/25gal. But less is better then more and to play safe a dose of half the recommended vol is better approach.

Thus you should try dosing 2ml and see what happen within 48hrs.

I know there's a waiting period prior to another dose. What would that be?

            Hi Nero,

the waiting period is every 14 days or longer depend on the condition of the tank.

Nero, on the first dose if you do not see any change you can redose a little more 7 days later. Then there is a 14 day period between doses.. If you see a change after the first dose do wait the full 14 days...

                    Peace, Jeff

Chefri, spur2 is best used in the later stages after nutrients are depleted.. If you have higher PO4 then more spur2 would have to be dosed to see results.. I am not sure that is a good idea though and would hold out dosing spur2 for a few months after starting the system.. I waited 6 months or so before I used it...

                    Peace, Jeff

Chefri, a higher PO4 concentration in the system will show a higher amount of zooxanthellae in the corals tissue. The impact of ZeoSpur2 is linked to the density of zooxanthellae & the dosed quantity. This is one reason why it is recommended to start slow with the product, to find the optimal dosage for each system.

I am with Jeff, it is the right way to use the product in a nutrient poor system for colouration “finetuning”. It also contains some important “metal based” elements which are useful for corals. One can also use it in a much lower quantity without getting the lighten up effect in the corals, similar as the classical trace elements.

                        Update:

Tonight will be 48hrs. and I have yet to see any changes in the coloration of the corals. Will it be safe to add a little more in 7 days? If so, how much more would be safe? I added 2mil. originally.

Hi Nero, yes, repeat Spur2 in 7 days, about 2.5 ml. Whether the corals lighten or not one must wait a fortnight before dosing again. Bob
