  • another salt ?

I have been using IO salt for a while now. My tank seems to be doing well with 420-430 Ca and 7dkh. My concern is that my IO mixes up with really hight dkh of 11-12. I add seachems reef calcium which brings up the ca to NSW levels. But the alk remains high.
So with my tank parameters stable should I not be concerned with high dkh of the mixed water? Or should I switch brands and try the new seachem reef salt.It would be nice to only have to add the salt to water. Without all the extra adding and testing I have been doing.
    Thanks

    Paul-

I believe that aged salt mixes Oceanic and IO. Get the best of both worlds, low kh and high calcium.

I believe Jeff is using Seachem salt without issues for a few months.

I guess my question is does it matter that my salt mixes high in alk if my tank seems to be stable? Is it because I only doing 10% WC . So it does not have a large impact on tank chemistry. If I do switch it will be to the seachem. and maybe I am hesitant to change because I have heard so many horror stories about changing salts.

            Paul-

I think that as long as your are using a quality salt, it doesn't matter what the kh mixes to so long as the tank is stable and that it's doesn't cause a radical (short term) spike when doing a WC.
