  • HIGH PO4 and algae Growth...

My tank 175x75x65 (225g) has seven months...a lot of fishes (4 tangs)...but a good skimmer...a lot of growth of caulerpa racemosa and others nuisance algae...but none of my fishes is eating them...
    My water bioload parameters are: NO3 = 0 (salifert) and PO4 = 0,07 (hanna)
At the moment i've got 1 liter of zeolith in the zeo-filter and i dose 6 drops of zeobak and 6 drops of zeofood every 3 days and 1 mm of zeostart1 every day...
My osmosis water has 0,00 of PO4, i change 10% of water every week...and i don't want to reduce the amount of food for the fishes!...
What can i do to reduce my PO4 at, at least, 0,02 and to finally look my rocks clean adn algae free?

    Try with phosphate remover.

IMO Phosphate removers are not used with the Zeovit system

How long have you been using the ZEO system? What’s your total 'actual' volume?

Filling out the http://www.zeovit.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14 would help us.

The ZEO Guide recommends 1liter of ZEOlith per 400liters of water, so you need 2 liters of ZEOlith for your 225g tank (assuming your total volume, is about 200g). Slowly adjust your dosing to: 6-8 drops of food/bac per day, and 7-8ml of start1 per day (again, for a 200g volume).

IME the reason your tests show your PO4 and NO3 values as low as yours, is due to the Algae utilizing it!

Once the ZEO system is in “full swing”, the NO3 and PO4 available to the Algae, will be severely reduced, to a point where the Algae cannot live.

Hi Luca, thnx. for the update information on your system. Try to obtain Start2 in place of Start1--it's more effective & less troublesome for our corals. As Josh mentioned, I'd increase your zeolite quantity to 1 1/2ltrs. at a flow rate of 600 l/h. Pump-clean your zeo-filter an extra 1-2 times a day in addition to your usual routine cleaning. Use 600g carbon in your sump--I strongly recommend the K-Z carbon--it makes a significant difference over others in my reef. Some carbons leach P04 which maybe fueling your algae menace. Be sure your RODI product water is low in TDS/Si's & P04's. This leak in product water is one of the commonest problems that reefs with algae experience. Your Bak/Food dosages are good & no changes are necessary. If you have a dark, thick biofilm on your panes, or on LR or LS then decrease Start1 dosage by 50% quantity. When you obtain Start2, please update us with your situation & dosing recommendations on Start2 can be given. Bob
