  • Phosphates in salt

I was a little disturbed to find that my Kent salt measured .04 on a friend's colormeter and my Deltec/Merck kit. That seems too high. Is there a lower phosphate salt out there? The Zeo salt seems too complicated for me. Anyone try the TM Pro?

I'll probably go thru thirty bucks of ROWAphos just to take out the po4 in the Kent, what a bummer.

      RODI is .035 - what's your point? ;-)

I tested from this source before and it was basically 0.00 but I'll check again. My friend with the colormeter makes his own RODI and is pretty particular. We have different sources for water and different buckets of salt - but the same result, so I'm going to guess its the salt.

David, if the Kent measured .04, then it's your product water Bob

I thought the second paragraph showed the sarcasm. Tested source water again and it's 0.0 so all po4 is from Kent salt. As mentioned, both my friend and I have 2 different quality po4 measuring systems, different source water (and we're both rather anal) and different buckets of water. So I would say proceed with caution on Kent salt.

Anyone else out there test other salts, like TM Pro?

Its in the first post - I'm using a Deltec/Merck kit which I have found to be very accurate. My friend is using a Hannah colormeter. We have both tested for accuracy on various things including a variety of tanks. We both also got exactly the same reading from Kent salt.

Trust me, it is the salt.
