  • start2 and low nutrient tanks

What are the reasons for continuing to dose start2, once you achieve low nutrients (Hanna PO4<0.04)? Also, are there any benefits to reducing PO4 further?

Tom, ZeoStart was made to just nourish bacteria with the benefit to reduce nutrients. ZeoFood was created to nourish bacteria and corals. It is necessary to provide a continuously food source to the bacteria in your tank to keep the bacteria alive. This can be done with ZeoFood or ZeoStart. ZeoFood has the side effect to nourish corals also while it contains amino acids. As we know amino acids, which are contained in ZeoFood, will darken the coral tissue if overdosed. ZeoStart was created to provide the possibility to nourish the bacteria without the addition of maybe to much amino acids. This will give you the possibility to dose more balanced to the needs of our tank. However I would recommend to dose ZeoStart continuously, also in a nutrient low system, but in a lower quantity.

So it is necessary to dose either food or start2 (or both); even after you have achieved low nutrients.

      Thanks Alexander

Tom, you could dose Start with amino acids (balanced ratio for your tank) or Food with a lower quantity of amino acids, depending to the tissue coloration.

Mike if you notice darker tissue you should cut down ZeoFood because it contains amino acids which darken the tissue. A strong overdose of ZeoStart2 can also darken the tissue but the effect is much weaker than ZeoFood.
