  • Need some help (id maybe)?

Hey guys i notice today while looking at the tank that the water is still cloudy (microbubbles)

BUT i also see tiny little strands that look like hair. i mean they are small, probably about 1/2 cm maybe less. but there are tons of them everywhere and i think thats contributing to the cloudiness more than the microbubbles. actually i think if they hair like strands went away the microbubbles may not play a factor.

NOW could this be related to the diatoms i am having from the reef ceramic rock?

    or is this something else?

    thanks!

Hi Nick, maybe some that have the RC can comment if these strands are off the ceramic material??? Bob

oh good point Bob i did not think of it coming off the ceramic rock.

so you dont think its from the diatoms?

they are really in abundance now that i sit down and look at it.

It sounds like it's from the rock. If so it will pass with time. Is the rock getting any corraline on it yet?

no not yet, but its turning green in some spots, so i am thinking its close to happening.

but i would say 85% of the 3 pillars are covered with heavy diatoms or hair algae.

the weird thing is that the mini-reef is only covered i woudl say 10% with diatoms and NOT any hair algae at all.

            pretty wierd.

i am seeing some coraline grow on the starboard though so thats a good sign along with on my closed loop systems (pvc).

anyway i hope its either from the rocks or diatoms, if so i am hoping that the micro bubble issue wont be so bad, it looks worse not because of these "strands". so i am thinking its the strands that are cauing the problems and that the microbubbles might go away on there own after this hair strand stuff is gone.... if not i will have to employ some of my other ideas... and hit you guys up for some, haha.
