  • Converting small tank?

Hey there, I ahev a BB 40 breeder. Right now I have an HOB Ecosystem 40 and Aquac Remora skimmer. I run T5's for light. I am looking to maybe try zeovit out, I was wondering what I need to get my system using it...I know the Ecosystem has to go, no mud and such...i think at least. My main thing is i need some sort of HOB Zeovit reactor, is there anything else I will require. I dose B-ionic, so I don't think a ca reactor is necessary...any opinions would be great.

    WELCOME to ZEOvit.com:

Could you tell us a bit more about your reef?
    Tell us about your tank.
Please give us answers to the following questions in order to get more accurate dosing recommendations.

    1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.)
    2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.)
    3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique
    4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.)
    5. Are you using Ozone
    6. Are you using UV
    7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume)
    8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels
    9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels
    10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.)
    11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.)
    12. What corals do you keep
    13. Tissue color (light or dark)
    14. How long has the tank been running
    15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system
    16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.)
    17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.)
    18. Any present problems
    19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
    20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.)
    21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.)
    22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.)

I know there are a lot of questions. Please be as detailed (and honest) as possible and feel free to elaborate on anything else you think may be important.
    Cheers
    Josh

        Welcome to ZeoVille !

While the alga component of the Ecosystem 40 should be removed, I haven't seen much discussion on the long-term compatibility and/or usefulness of Miracle Mud with the ZEOvit system ... or with regards to Bio-Sediment, or Fiji Gold Refugium Mud, or any other commercially distributed bacterioplankton generating substrate.

The Ecosystem 40 may or may not be suitable as a form of DIY zeoreactor. If "shaking the rocks" is convenient, and it has adequate flow ... why not? When I scanned Ecosystem Aquarium's product page for their HOB stuff (http://www.ecosystemaquarium.com/html/hangonback.html), I didn't see any pump spec numbers.

Any additional response to the "Tell Us About Your Tank" questions would be helpful. I don't see any major issues of concern, judging from the preliminary information presented in your inital post. BB 40g breeder, T5s, B-Ionic ... no worries. The Remora (is it the Remora, or the Remora Pro?) may, or may not, be an adequate skimmer ... depending on model, and on the bioload you introduce into the system. I know the Pro is "rated" (... i.e., "marketed" ...) for up to 125 gallons (http://www.aquaticwarehouse.com/site...04E80557071E4A), but ... well ... I'd like to see the manufacturer data that supports those kind of claims.
