  • Just about read to start zeo...recommendations please

    1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.) 125+25 gal
    2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.) 110 gal
    3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique yes
    4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.) no
    5. Are you using Ozone? no
    6. Are you using UV? no
    7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume) asm G-4x good for 300 gal, needlewheel
    8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels? undetectable by salifert
    9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels? 390-400 & 1250
    10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.) bare bottom w/ live rock + big skimmer
    11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.) 4 x 250 watt mh (2 xm 10k + 2 xm 20k) & 3 x 140 watt vho actinic. could probably replace the actinic
    12. What corals do you keep? 95% sps 5% lps & softies
    13. Tissue color (light or dark) lighter
    14. How long has the tank been running? about a year
    15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system? better growth and color
    16. Any supplemental dosing? (type, amount, why, etc.) none
    17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.) about 100 lbs
    18. Any present problems? no
    19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.) n/a
    20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.) salifert all less than a year
    21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.) havent started yet
    22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.) 77-80 degrees & 1.025

I know there are a lot of questions. Please be as detailed (and honest) as possible and feel free to elaborate on anything else you think may be important.

Actinics run 14 hours, 20k's for 6 hours & 10k's for 4.5 hours. Tank was upgraded from a previous 55 gal that was going about a year. I run kalk but was told i should stop dosing kalk before I start zeo?? Great husbandry...weekly 8-10% water changes. no algea problems. 2 x 6100 streams on a 7095 for water movement. I run a canister for carbon but will be switching to a passive technique shortly. I run an iwaki 30 throttled back a little on the sump probably about 600-700 gph going through the sump

    thanks

Hi Jason, good to have you aboard. Either Jeff or I will give you dosing advice later today, Bob

Hi Jason, thnx. for your info. Yes, KW is not used with the ZEOvit method--plz. top up with RODI water. I may have missed your alkalinity level, but the KH should be between 6-8 & stable. For your system, I recommend the following:
1)dose one Cup carbon, passively, & knead this bag 3x's/wk. Exchange the carbon monthly.
2)dose 1 ltr. zeolite in a zeo-filter at a flow rate of 100gph. A little more or less is fine. Pump clean the stones 1-2 x's/day & cycle the stones on & off at 3hr. intervals. The zeolites should be submerged when the filter is off. Exchange these stones in 4 wks. then repost for adjustments to your zeo-dosing.
3)dose 4 drops Bak/Food daily for 2 wks. then 4 drops each 2x's/wk. Dose these when the filter is "on" & in front of the filter pump. Turn your skimmer off for 60min after dosing Bak & Food
4)dose .2ml Start2 2x's/day daily. It is not necessary to turn off your skimmer when just dosing Start2. Jason, ask any questions? Bob

I noticed when I read the guide it recommended to start at 60% as far as the actual zeoliths are concerned. Does this mean that I shouldnt use the entire 1 litre bag of zeo rocks? My alk is usually around 9.

          Thanks again Bob

Hi Jason, thnx. for your questions. I've based your zeo-dosages on the quantity of zeolites given. Plz. drop the KH to 8 or less gradually, as when the nutrients do become depleted a KH >8 will result in coral consequences. Bob
