  • Zeovit & Fuge??

I am considering setting up a fuge on my new BB 180. My main display is BB but would like to put a 3" sandbed & macro algae in a 20g tank for a fuge. The main purpose of the fuge is to grow macro algae to feed my fish, and increase and maintain my pod population. I understand that the sand in the fuge will be in contrast to my BB display but I don't think it will cause any problems. Just curious if anyone else is running a fuge with the Zeovit?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreicated.

Hi Jim, if you wish to have a refugium, I see no immediate problem until your system reaches a nutrient-poor state, then if there is die-off just disconnect it from your system, & continue to use for feeding your system, manually several x's/wk, Bob

I'm running 2-25 gallon. No sand though just some LR rubble. The flow to feed them is from a Mag 7 so it's really not enough to keep stuff in suspension. I have a power head in each that comes on once a day for about an hour and that helps keep it clean.
Originally it was to grow macros but it seemed to die off and contribute to pollution more than help. I've since removed all the macros and one run with the sides and top blocked from all light and the other gets overspray light from another tank.

Interesting things have been growing, sponges and such.

Cool....Sound like I am gonna give it a run. When it comes to the point where my nutrients are too low to keep the macro alive I will just rip it out. I may go with rubble instead of sand but I am unsure at the moment.

        Thanks

Just keep in mind if it's low flow rubble will collect a lot of junk in and around it. If you stir it up once on a regular basis it should stay OK clean.
