As I suspected, the zeoliths provide porous ion exchange sites that allow a bacterial film to develop. If the zeoliths are depleted by bacteria clogging/using up the pores, would it be possible to use a rock tumbler to re-rough up the surface of the zeoliths, thereby providing renewed pores/functionality? Since I have a small rock tumbler at home, I've considered trying this since the cost of replacing the zeoliths adds up. Thoughts???

Hi Jeff, remember that will not replenish the ionic exchange properties of the zeolites, therefore, it's limited to biological activity only. Bob
