The carpet cleaning man

Well today i had the carpet cleaner scheduled to come out and clean my house (carpet). What was suprising is that out of no where this guy (your average immigrant? - please, not to insult anyone, just to paint a picture) was amazed at the corals in my tank. Why was I so suprised? because out of all my family, friends and others who arent into aquariums, the carpet cleaning man was more amazed at the SPS corals I had. He doesnt own a tank himself, but asked simple questions.. like.. is this saltwater? do those corals grow? is it computerized? Since he was thrilled about my tank, I decided to show him the equipment room and it blew his mind. First thing he pointed at was the big BK! LOL.

Edward... Barbara always warns people about asking me questions unless they want an hour long episode of "Nature" to follow. Guess I must be a fish nerd.

My 225 FO is in the entrance way of my house, clear on all sides so you look through the tank to see the rest of the house. I keep a usual selection of fish in the tank. And people always gawk at the beauty of the yellow tangs and blue damsels -- Non-Fish people never comment about the angels, butterflys, tangs.... Although the puffers do get noticed.

Then they move over to the reef tank, and again - It's the yellow tangs - Never the purples, or chevrons, or blacks... or even the corals.

I wonder how jaded we have become --- LOL

LOL i get the same amazed face on my friends , then my wife says "UPPS thats an error" and i too get along with an hour of endless reef aquaria class . I cant help it .

I once had a salesmen who couldnt believe that we can keep SPS now. He was from the old school days where the usual deco was dead SPS skeletons painted in amuzing colors. He of course ended up at my house for more than 2 hours talking about how to keep SPS!

No commissions for him dat day i guess.

I know what you mean about the family and friends. Maybe its just because they are used to seeing things like that. Anytime we have food delivered they are always like oohhh & aahhh. I love it. Makes me feel like I am doing something right ya know.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.. usually my friends/family love the softies that wave in the tank.. but this guy was persistent with the SPS corals. he didnt even once ask about the softies or fish. thats what was amazing.

The ones that I love are the family and friends that notice the nice purple rock and want some for their garden or else they spot the magnet cleaner and are simply amazed by it and just want to play with that instead of noticing my pride and joy - the corals and fish!!!!

The last carpet cleaner I had in my house cleaned the wrong carpet. Cheaper to buy my own machine and save on the divorice lawyer.
